Being in ARMY can be a life-changing experience, especially because people tend to find BTS at the exact time they need to. That was certainly the case for Erika Casupanan, winner of Survivor Season 41. Casupanan joins Stanning BTS to talk about how becoming a BTS stan helped — in a way — her win one of the biggest reality shows of all time. Listen above or wherever you get your podcasts.
Casupanan reveals that BTS’s smash “Dynamite” in particular became a source of strength as she took on challenge after challenge on Survivor. She also runs through her journey of becoming a part of ARMY, as well as how BTS’s own story of going from a garage in the suburbs of Seoul to world tours and international stardom inspired her once she found herself on reality competition.
“I have experienced the feeling of being underestimated and the feeling of being overlooked,” she says, “and I found that a lot of people who resonated with my story on Survivor, they resonated with it because they also experienced that in some way. I think that there’s probably a lot of ARM who feel that way toom and I think that that’s part of why it’s so much fun to cheer on somebody like BTS. Even though we may not have recorded an album in a small garage, we probably have all had moments where we think, ‘Okay, we are entering the situation and somebody doesn’t believe that we have what it takes, but we have to find a way to persist.’”
