The 2026 Oscar nominations were revealed Thursday, January 22nd, and the nominees included a lot of recognition for Warner Bros.’s Sinners and One Battle After Another. The actors nominated for their performances in 2025 films include Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, Emma Stone, Jessie Buckley, Wagner Moura, Rose Byrne, Benicio del Toro, and Jacob Elordi. Additionally, KPop Demon Hunters picked up its expected nominations for Best Song and Animated Film, and Nick Cave was recognized for his original song for Train Dreams.
Sinners broke the record for most nominations for a single film, receiving 16 and breaking the record of 14 long since held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land. Making a surprising showing was Joseph Kosinski’s F1, receiving a Best Picture nomination as well as technical recognition for sound, visual effects, and editing. Brazil’s The Secret Agent and Norway’s Sentimental Value were also recognized both in the Best Picture and International Film categories, proving the Academy’s increased embrace of foreign films. There’s a lot of diversity amongst this year’s nominees, as well as a lot of recognition for movies featured on Consequence’s Best Movies of 2025 list.
One fun twist for this year: In 2025, following the 97th Academy Awards, AMPAS announced a new rule that in order to participate in the final voting, Academy members must watch all the nominated movies in each category. Which means getting to imagine folks like Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise sitting through all of the below nominees before casting their votes.
