Who is Lord Gerard Grey?
In Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Lord Gerard Grey is the father of Lord John Grey (David Berry), but don’t expect to see him in the prequel spinoff, as the latter isn’t born until 1729. Considering the timeline, Lord Gerard Grey’s introduction is the perfect way to incorporate the family of a beloved character like Lord John, without having to play with time travel. Lord Gerard Grey is also the Earl of Melton.
How is Lord Gerard Grey part of the story?
In Gabaldon’s books, it’s revealed that Lord Gerard Grey fought in the Jacobite rising of 1715, and so his presence in the series during that time makes sense historically. How Blood of My Blood will use the character in accordance with Henry’s story will remain to be seen, as fans believed he and Julia (Hermione Corfield) were dead by the time their daughter Claire (Caitriona Balfe) was five.
Is Lord Gerard Grey a villain?
During the original run of Outlander, Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) main foe was Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies), tarnishing the name of most redcoats until the introduction of Lord John Grey. Will Lord Gerard Grey prove to be a foe, particularly for Brian (Jamie Roy), Dougal (Sam Retford), and the others who fought for the Jacobites?
We’d find it hard to believe that the man who fathered a son as good-hearted as Lord John could be evil, but we’ll have to keep a close eye. For now, he appears to be an ally of Henry’s, which could prove helpful as Henry continues to protect Brian, as he didn’t lift his weapon against the man on the battlefield.
