The Night Manager star Tom Hiddleston confirms where season 3 will pick up.
The series lead has revealed what’s going to happen next after the spy thriller’s harrowing season 2 finale cliffhanger. The story of The Night Manager season 2 takes place a decade after the events of season 1, with Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston) becoming involved in a new case where he must go undercover. However, things take a turn in season 2, episode 4, when it’s revealed his old enemy, Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie) is still alive. Season 2 ends on a cliffhanger, with Pine injured in the jungle after a confrontation between the pair.
Speaking with IndieWire, Hiddleston revealed exactly where The Night Manager season 3 will pick up following the major cliffhanger season 2 leaves off on. The series star confirmed that season 3 will take place exactly where the previous season finale ended, with Pine in the jungle and no immediate rescue in sight. The actor explained how pulse-pounding this will make the premiere episode, as it happens in the wake of Roper winning, making it unclear just how Pine is going to get out of his current predicament alive.

The Night Manager is considered one of the best spy thrillers of the modern era. While season 1 was pulled from the pages of the late John le Carré’s book of the same name, season 2 features an entirely original story with the same actors and characters returning. Because of this, these new seasons of the show are able to lead into one another more directly, with there being plenty of loose threads established during season 2 for Pine and Roper to continue tying up when season 3 arrives.
Although Hiddleston’s role in the story is being threatened by his newest injury, the actor’s season 3 timeline confirmation indicates he’ll find some way out of the jungle, even with no help being offered. But, even if he does escape, nothing will ever be the same again. Roper’s level of power is unmatched now, considering he’s managed to fake his death to the wider world and his dispatched many of Pine’s allies. This includes the tragic death of Angela Burr (Olivia Coleman) in the season 2 finale.
