In a clash that’s been coming for over a decade, Knull (aka the King in Black) will finally fight Thanos, with the ultimate weapon in the balance.
It’s Thanos vs Knull for the Ultimate Weapon
In recently released solicit information for Knull #3, Marvel has revealed that Knull will do battle with the Mad Titan himself, Thanos. The two will compete for the All-Light Spear – one of the greatest weapons in existence, and the opposite number of Knull’s own All-Black the Necrosword.

In recent comics, Asgardian goddess Hela stole Knull’s powers, becoming the new Queen in Black. Knull is on a quest to defeat her and reclaim his might, but to do it, he needs the one weapon that can threaten his (former) power. Sadly for Knull, All-Light already has an owner.

Our Take on Thanos vs The King in Black
Knull was the definitive Marvel villain of the 2010s, with the epic King in Black event seeing him descend on Earth, only to be defeated and killed by Venom. Knull was depicted as the embodiment of primordial darkness and the creator of symbiotes, later locked away by his creations due to his incredible evil.
However, recent comics have brought back Knull, and started to incorporate him into Marvel lore. Rather than an unknowable big bad, we now know Knull is a former mortal who took on a role in the cosmic order and was corrupted by its terrifying weight. His fight to regain his power makes him the main character rather than a godlike antagonist, demanding more complexity from the character.
As the main character of his own series, Knull needs a villain worth his while, and Thanos is absolutely that. Thanos was to the ’90s what Knull was to the 2010s, and fans are more than ready to see them throw down. For years, fans have debated whether Thanos or Knull is more powerful – now, the two are finally going to settle that debate, as the King in Black battles the Mad Titan.
