Waxahatchee made her return to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert to perform a handful of tracks from this year’s excellent Tigers Blood as well as 2020’s Saint Cloud.
Donned in a lush red sweater and some cool shades, Waxahatchee — the project of Katie Crutchfield — performed a five-song set alongside her backing band (which includes Jeff Tweedy’s son, Spencer, on drums). She opened the performance with a chipper rendition of her newest single, “Much Ado About Nothing,” and continued with a trio of Tigers Blood tracks: “Right Back To It,” “Crowbar,” and the album’s title track. She concluded the set with a performance of her Saint Cloud single “Fire.” Watch the full Tiny Desk Concert below.
The appearance marked Waxahatchee’s second at the Tiny Desk, previously appearing in 2013 in support of her more indie rock-leaning second album Cerulean Salt. She referenced her past performance before launching into “Right Back To It.” “I sort of rolled out of the tour van, I didn’t realize I was going to be, like, in the NPR building … sort of didn’t really know what I was doing at all,” she said. “My amp broke in the middle [of the set]… I’m really happy that that exists, and I’m really happy to be back to show you this new version of the band.”
It’s been a big year for Waxahatchee. In addition to nabbing her first Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album, she performed at the 2024 Americana Honors and Awards, appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and toured frequently around the country. Meanwhile, we recently named Tigers Blood as one of the best albums of the year, and named “Right Back To It” as one of the best songs of the year.
Waxahatchee has a handful of festival appearances, support gigs, and one-off shows set for 2025. See her tour dates below and get tickets here. Plus, revisit our review of Tigers Blood.
