Halfway through Season 3, Loot is pulling out all the emotional stops on us.
The best dynamic on the show by far is Nicholas and Molly’s friendship.
They’re inseparable to the point where their codependency is always so fun to watch; even actors Maya Rudolph and Joel Kim Booster agree.

But Loot Season 3 Episode 5, “Joyride,” dives deep into the unique bond they’ve built over their many years of working together.
Compared to the usual comedic tone, this Apple TV sitcom reminds us why Nicholas and Molly are total friendship goals and demonstrates just how much they care for each other.
Molly Flips the Script
Throughout Loot, Nicholas is shown to take care of Molly constantly.
Whether it’s knowing which shoes match her dress or listing every single one of her allergies, he always keeps an eye out for her.

This time, Molly finally insists on showing that same kind of support for Nicholas.
She even goes so far as to hire Kesha to perform an acoustic private show for him, demonstrating how well she knows him that she can pinpoint how to make his dreams come true.
Her actions prove that she’s willing to go to the ends of the earth for Nicholas, just like he would for her.
Eventually, when she realizes that what he needs is to leave and pursue his dreams of acting, Molly does the hardest thing anyone can do: let her other half go.

Her decision to push Nicholas to pursue his career desires and achieve a new kind of emotional fulfillment reveals that she truly wants him to be happy, even if it’s without her.
Plus, it’s a model of how a healthy friendship involves unconditional support and love.
But of course, the episode also promises that despite going their separate ways, Molly and Nicholas will always have each other’s backs.
They Are Each Other’s Day One
Some of the most delightful moments came from the look into Nicholas and Molly’s past.

The sitcom’s reveal of how these two characters first encountered each other is also a perfect representation of how they intuitively understand each other on a completely different level.
Their instant chemistry really shines through, especially in how Nicholas can already honestly tell what style suits Molly and how their joint confidence makes them a powerful duo.
Additionally, the fact that Nicholas recognized Molly’s ex-husband wasn’t treating her well, even before they got divorced, just goes to show that from the very start, he has always been looking out for her.
Similarly, Molly came into Nicholas’ life right when he needed her, as he was struggling quite a bit before she promised to ensure that he would be taken care of unconditionally.
Plus, seeing these two before their transformation into the characters they are today helps indicate how much they’ve helped each other grow over their many years of companionship.

The future of Molly and Nicholas may be uncertain right now, especially with the latter moving to a completely different country.
But knowing how much they love each other, I have faith that these two will find their way back into each other’s lives, one way or another.
