J Balvin took the Palco Mundo stage at Rock in Rio on Saturday, for an hour-long celebration of reggaeton that stretched from genre staples to his own global hits.
Along the way, the Colombian superstar made the performance distinctly Brazilian by revisiting his collaborations with Anitta and welcoming Pedro Sampaio and Melody as surprise guests.
Blavin performed “Bola Rebola,” his 2019 collaboration with Anitta, Tropkillaz, and MC Zaac, as well as “Downtown,” his 2017 hit with Anitta. Balvin also expressed his affection for the Brazilian superstar from the stage.
Pedro Sampaio then joined him for “Perversa,” while Brazilian singer Melody later joined them both for “JETSKI,” further turning the Rock in Rio appearance into a meeting point between reggaetón and Brazil’s pop and funk scenes.

Balvin recently reflected on the global rise of Spanish-language music, telling GQ that the success of artists like Karol G and Bad Bunny proves he no longer needs to consider recording an English-language album. “It’s our moment,” he said, adding, “It’s not a trend. Now it’s really a movement.”
