Nicki Minaj has claimed that she’s cancelling her new album, and has blamed Jay-Z for it – see what she had to say below.
Last month, Minaj announced that her sixth studio album will be released in March next year. Now, however, the ‘Starships’ rapper has seemingly cancelled the album and says Jay-Z is to blame.
She wrote yesterday, also potentially hinting that she might be retiring from music altogether: “Ok I’m not going to put out the album anymore. no more music. Hope you’re happy now @sc [Jay-Z’s handle]. Bye, Barbz. Love you for life.”

In a previous tweet hours before her proclamation, she wrote about unspecified parties opposing her: “They don’t want me to put out music. Me winning makes them feel like they lost. They’re right. However, it didn’t have to be this way. Lots of ppl part ways in business. They know how successful my next album is going to be. Tried to sign [Lil] Wayne, Drake, me.”
She continued: “So they keep wanting to take or stop my money simply b/c narcissists believe what you work hard for belongs to them. Fuming b/c they can’t siphon anymore energy, money, blessings, love, grace, joy, PEACE… the culture. No successful tours. Just vibes & payola. CasiNO”

She tagged Jay-Z once again in a separate post: “They came BEGGING the QUEEN for a tour & album & I said NOPE!!!!! LMFAO. Wanted to patch it up. They needed help from the QUEEN & the BARBZ. I called the Barbz on the secret BARB phone & it was a resounding NOOOOOOOO. just like the casinooooooooooooooooooo. @sc”

These posts seemingly point at her strained relationship with Jay-Z, who she claimed earlier this year owes her $200million (£148m) for her equity in the music streaming platform Tidal. She said that she was initially given a three per cent stake in Tidal at its 2015 launch, but was offered only $1million (£738,000) for her share of the company after it was then sold to Jack Dorsey’s Square for $302million (£223m) in 2021.
It follows reports that Jay-Z has been pushing to open a Caesar’s Palace casino in Times Square despite heavy opposition.
Additionally, Nicki Minaj has repeatedly hit out at Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, who in 2021 was pardoned by President Donald Trump for decades-old drug-related charges. Minaj has also suggested that Perez is behind tabloid outlets reporting that Minaj and her husband are being forced to sell her California home in order to pay $500,000 to a security guard over an altercation that reportedly left the man with a broken jaw – a Los Angeles judge issued the ruling in March last year.
Prior to her rants targetted at Jay-Z, she’s been embroiled in a newly reignited war of words with Cardi B.
Whether Nicki Minaj is serious about cancelling her album remains to be seen. Her last album was 2023’s ‘Pink Friday 2’, which scored a four-star review from NME: “‘Pink Friday 2’ feels like a consolidation and refinement of everything Minaj can do – including dropping pop culture references that no other artist would think of.”
