Korn’s Brian ‘Head’ Welch shares update on new music from the band

Korn‘s Brian ‘Head’ Welch has shared an update on their next record.

The US nu-metal band’s last studio album, ‘Requiem’, came out in February 2022, and since then they’ve been teasing a follow-up.

Welch previously said that there would be new music coming in 2024, telling Loudwire: “Yeah, new music coming out next year. I don’t know, we’re just kind of in hiding right now, just doing our own thing.”

But, now, he’s confirmed they won’t be releasing anything before the year ends. Speaking to the podcast Everblack, Welch touched on their current songwriting process. “Yeah, we got a lot of it [written]. We’re still working,” he said.

He went on to say: “Dude, it’s a trip 30 years later, man, to try to keep doing it. And we’re very happy with what we got, but it’s just gonna take a while. And I don’t know how long — maybe next summer, maybe next year, the next winter, I don’t know, but it’s not gonna be soon.”

Last year, the band shared a deluxe edition of their 2007 album, which they released without a title.

In a four-star review of ‘Requiem’, NME said: “2019’s ‘The Nothing’ found frontman Jonathan Davis crushed by grief. The follow-up adds a tentative touch of hope to the band’s discography,” and added, “It would be a push to call this Korn’s first ‘happy’ album. More accurately, ‘Requiem’ has brought something new to a discography that, until now, has been an exploration of human suffering. It’s led to the band’s most nuanced record to date.”

Elsewhere, on their recent tour, Korn played deep cut ‘Hey Daddy’ live for the first time in 25 years.

Shortly after that, they were joined by Evanescence‘s Amy Lee for a collaborative rendition of ‘Freak On A Leash’. The performance was part of a special show in Los Angeles to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1994 self-titled debut album. Alongside Evanescence as special guests were Gojira, Scars On Broadway, Spiritbox and more.

As for their 2025 live plans, Korn are set to play Download Festival and France’s HellFest next summer.
