The Cozy Baking Recipes Our Editors Are Making This Month

PSA: February doesn’t always need a grand gesture. It asks for warmth, simplicity, and something sweet in the oven. This is the month when baking becomes less about occasion and more about feeling, guided by cravings for comfort and a little lift of joy.

Our editors’ favorite February recipes lean into the flavors that always deliver in the late winter months. Think: cinnamon for instant coziness, citrus for brightness when winter feels long, and chocolate for the kind of indulgence that never seems to fail. These are mood-boosting bakes made for winter rituals of all kinds, whether you’re gathering, gifting, or simply baking for the pleasure of it. Recipes that fill the kitchen with nostalgia and remind us why February is best enjoyed one delicious moment at a time.

Cozy Baking Staples to Keep in Your Pantry

February baking is all about ease and intention, starting with a pantry stocked for comfort. Think versatile ingredients that can turn a slow afternoon into something nourishing and nostalgic.

  • Rolled oats: Hearty, comforting, and endlessly versatile, rolled oats are the backbone of cozy baking.
  • Cocoa powder: Cocoa powder delivers a deep, moody quality that makes winter bakes feel extra indulgent.
  • Vanilla extract: The unsung hero that makes everything taste warmer and more familiar.
  • Warming spices such as cinnamon and cardamom: Cinnamon and cardamom add instant warmth and that unmistakable wintery feel.
  • Honey: Honey lends gentle sweetness and a soft, floral warmth that elevates every bake.

These staples make baking feel less like a project and more like an instinct. When your ingredients are already on hand, it’s easier to bake on a whim—simply because it sounds like exactly what you need.

How to Create a Winter Baking Ritual

A winter baking ritual doesn’t have to be elaborate. Start by choosing a time that feels unhurried. Maybe a quiet Sunday afternoon or an early Thursday evening. Put on a playlist that signals calm, pour yourself something warm like cider or hot cocoa, and let baking become the event.

Measure slowly. Enjoy the scents as they build. Let the kitchen feel like a haven. Over time, this ritual becomes something you look forward to. A small pause in the middle of winter that brings a sense of self-care into your days.

Our Editors’ 10 Favorite Cozy Baking Recipes

slice and bake cookies

Chocolate Slice-and-Bake Cookies

This is my go-to February bake when I want something seriously comforting with very little effort. Slice-and-bake cookies feel almost intuitive—mix once, chill, and bake whenever the craving strikes. I love how customizable this version is, with a buttery chocolate base and whatever mix-ins you have on hand. It’s the kind of recipe that fits perfectly into a slow winter afternoon, and makes it easy to share something homemade, even on a whim. – Isabelle Eyman, Editorial Strategist

Healthy Oatmeal Cookies

Healthy Oatmeal Cookies

These are the cookies I bake when I want something cozy and nourishing that still brings the comfort of a dessert. Hearty oats, just the right touch of sweetness, and that irresistible fresh-from-the-oven chew. – Camille Styles, Editor-in-Chief

oatmeal cream pies

Oatmeal Cream Pies

I made these oatmeal cream pies for my family over the holidays and there wasn’t a crumb leftover. The icing is rich but balanced by the jam filling (I opted for a savory-leaning strawberry), and the puffy, oatmeal-cake-like cookies are a great twist on the classic chewy version. – Casey McKee, Editorial Assistant

Raspberry Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Raspberry Chocolate Chunk Cookies

These have become one of my favorite cookies to bake with my kids this time of year! We all love raspberries and chocolate, and these cookies hit that sweet spot between the two (pun intended). February always has me craving cozy, messy kitchen moments with my boys, and these are the perfect love-filled treat to make together.  – Edie Horstman, Wellness Editor

One-Bowl Salted Chocolate Cake

One-Bowl Salted Chocolate Cake

This is the cake I turn to when February calls for something deeply chocolatey but blissfully simple. One bowl, minimal cleanup, and a perfectly tender crumb that feels indulgent without being over the top. The flaky salt on top is non-negotiable. It sharpens the sweetness and makes every bite feel decadent. – Camille Styles, Editor-in-Chief

citrus-y olive oil cake

Citrus-y Olive Oil Cake

Citrus really shines in the winter, so I’ve got my eye on this citrus-y olive oil cake, as well as this chocolate orange loaf cake. I often save cake recipes for special occasions, but after an especially dreary January, I’m looking for any reason to celebrate! Even if it’s just making it through the week. Both of these cakes look delicious! – Kristen Garaffo, Design Editor

Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake

Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake

As Kristen mentioned, this loaf cake IS my new weekend baking obsession. There’s something about pulling a warm loaf out of the oven on a cold Sunday morning that can’t be beat. – Casey McKee, Editorial Assistant

strawberries cream pavlova summer dessert recipe

Strawberries and Cream Pavlova

When winter starts to feel long, this pavlova is my reminder that brightness is still within reach. Light, airy, and topped with whatever fruit you feel like, it feels celebratory without being heavy. It’s impressive but totally unfussy to make ahead. I love serving it at the end of a cozy dinner, when you need something sweet but richness feels like too much. – Isabelle Eyman, Editorial Strategist

Pumpkin Loaf Cake

Pumpkin Loaf Cake

Forever making this pumpkin cake. It’s a crowd-fave and my personal feel-good food—it comes out perfect every time. Also starting a petition to make pumpkin year-round, not seasonal. – Anna Decker, Social Media & E-Commerce Manager

Gluten-Free Citrus Cake with Strawberries and Cardamom Coconut Cream

Gluten-Free Citrus Cake with Strawberries and Cardamom Coconut Cream

I was lucky enough to try this cake the first time Allison baked it for the CS Team, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Spring strawberries are my personal favorite topping, but the beauty of this recipe is how effortlessly it works with whatever fruit or berries are in season. Right now, I’d skip the coconut icing and opt for orange slices and a simple powdered sugar glaze. It’s also gluten-free, making it an easy, crowd-pleasing dinner party dessert that looks and feels effortless (but tastes incredible).
– Bridget Chambers, Fashion Editor
