Off Campus is getting controversial.
Prime Video’s latest book adaptation is taking the world by storm, even dethroning some of the biggest original series currently available on the streamer, including The Boys. Off Campus is based on the novel series written by Elle Kennedy, which has already reached 36 million viewers within its first 12 days, making it the third-largest debut series ever.
One controversial topic is the age difference between the main stars, Ella Bright, and her co-star, Belmont Cameli. Bright was 18 at the start of filming Off Campus opposite Cameli, who is 28 years old. However, the young actress appeared on a podcast titled Not Skinny But Not Fat, where the controversial topic was addressed, and Bright made sure to clarify that “not once did I feel, one left out from being younger than everybody.”
“We’re all such a family, and everyone was just more than perfect, and I couldn’t be more comfortable on this set with these people. So it is funny when they say that. I’m like ‘I’m good.'”
Bright does also explain that she “came into this job and during the chemistry reads with more than enough information and knowledge and understanding of what this role required and the show.” The series is a collegiate sports romance following the intertwining lives, romances, and friendships of elite college hockey players and the women surrounding them. This series premiered after the extremely successful R-rated queer hockey series Heated Rivalry, which also broke records during its first season.
Book adaptations are becoming hot property due to their never-ending success for shows such as The Summer I Turned Pretty, Bridgerton, and Rivals, which is currently airing its second season. Author Rebecca Yarros’ viral sensation Fourth Wing is also being adapted for Prime Video with star Michael B. Jordan backing the project.
Off Campus has already been renewed for a second season even before its worldwide premiere. However, season 2 will follow two new leads, Dean (played by Stephen Kalyn) and Allie (played by Mika Abdalla). Unfortunately, Josh Heuston has exited the series after portraying Hannah’s crush Justin Kohl. Allie is also a hot topic for the series due to her viral moment dressed up as J-Lo.
At the time of writing, there is no official release date for Off Campus season 2, but season 1 is available to watch on Prime Video now.
