Dunsparce has been at the end of jokes for a long time, but in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, it receives an evolution into the far stronger Dudunsparce.
The Normal-type Dunsparce roams all across the Paldea Region in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, a returning pocket monster with a brand-new evolution named Dudunsparce that encourages players to train this otherwise overlooked Pokémon. With a distinct move only learned by Dunsparce and its transformation that makes it a force to be reckoned with, players that take the time to develop this abnormally bulky Pokémon may find a new and powerful addition to their team. Although there are multiple forms that Dudunsparce may have, those factors are outside the player’s control and do not affect the method associated with evolving Dunsparce whatsoever.
The primary way players can evolve Dunsparce into Dudunsparce is by training the Pokémon to level 32, where it learns the move “Hyper Drill” and then increases its level one more time. Players that accidentally delete Hyper Drill prior to the subsequent level-up can use the settings in the Boxes menu to teach the attack to Dunsparce again without issue. Dudunsparce has two forms, one with two segmentations on its abdomen and another with a far rarer three. The evolutionary form also exists in the wild after players delve into Pokémon Scarlet & Violet‘s postgame in Area Zero of the Great Paldea Crater. However, Dunsparce are incredibly common to catch in the South Province of Area Four, giving players plenty of chances to find a specific variant that they might wish to evolve.
How To Get Dudunsparce in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
The division between the body parts of Dudunsparce are randomly determined when it evolves from Dunsparce, as becoming a three-segmented alternate has a slim 4% chance of occurring. Often players will have a Dunsparce that morphs into a two-segmented form, which thankfully does not have different statistics compared to the unique variation. Trainers that desire this rare form should consider breeding in the same vein as Hidden Ability hunting in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet to increase the prospects of the elusive Dudunsparce showing up. Experimenting with other systems, such as sandwiches of certain Egg properties, may also contribute, but there is never a guarantee other than beating the odds during this process.
Dudunsparce hosts many advantages that make it a natural improvement to Dunsparce, as expected from a Pokémon’s evolution. The Normal-type Pokémon learns a wider variety of Technical Machine (TM) moves compared to others and only sports one glaring weakness to rival Fighting-types. Although both Dunsparce and its evolution have a great HP stat and decent Attack, their Defense traits leave something to be desired and leave them as more situational when on a team taking on challenges such as Pokémon Scarlet & Violet‘s Tera Raid battles. Yet, the one-of-a-kind Hyper Drill packs a punch that only Dudunsparce has, a tool that benefits players that choose to evolve Dunsparce in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
