Red Dead Redemption 2 will be relevant for years to come, if only because Rockstar spent an inordinate amount of time crafting it. There are plenty of adventures to go on beyond the main campaign, and like Skyrim before it, it’s become a favorite among newcomers to the open-world genre.
There’s always something to find when you’re exploring the plains, and it’s not always story-related, or even hand-crafted by Rockstar. In fact, fans are still discovering new things all these years later. Now, Rockstar Games has made an official announcement that gives Red Dead Redemption 2 fans another excuse to log back in.
We now know what Rockstar has planned for Red Dead Online in October, including 4x rewards and plenty of other Halloween celebrations.
Here’s the setup for the October celebrations: “Haunting season has reached the frontier, treating Red Dead Online players to hefty bonuses for the hair-raising adventures in Strange Tales of the West. Get 4X RDO$, Gold, and XP all month long for investigating these weird and unexplained phenomena that include shambling undead, ornery swamp folk, and reports of artificial life. And that’s merely the beginning… Defend friendly holdouts and survivor settlements in All Hallows’ Call to Arms, unlock rare items from the resurrected Halloween Pass 2, get the red Fernwater Coat for logging in, and more throughout October.”
Here’s what you can snag: “Plus, sell Wildlife Samples to Harriet Davenport to get 3X RDO$, Role XP, and XP — as well as earning a Reward for a Free Coat by selling one Wildlife Sample between October 6–12. Also, get your hands dirty completing any Blood Money Contract from October 20–26 to receive a Reward for a Free Weapon.””
You can also start going on the Strange Tales of the West quests right now. You just need to pick up Levin’s letter at a post office (or Camp Lockbox) and open it, then you’re good to go. Alternatively, you can launch it through the Telegram Missions menu.
If you invested in the prior Halloween pass, you’re in luck, as you can pick up your progress with the second iteration, also launching this week. There are 15 ranks in all, and most of the rewards range from clothing to accessory cosmetics. A bunch of in-game services are also discounted, including Halloween masks at Madam Nazar’s.
As for what’s next for Rockstar, the sky really is the limit by the time GTA 6 hits, and Rockstar funnels the profits back into the next project. We could see more remasters and remakes pad out the schedule before the next big thing, along with inevitable PC ports of GTA 6 and potential DLC.
Then there’s the speculation around GTA Online 2.0, which could bring a massive influx of new players, given that the last entry was delivered multiple generations ago. Many more players will be looking for a fresh experience.
Although Rockstar fumbled a bit with GTA 5 campaign DLC, they likely won’t ignore the potential of this upcoming generation. Until all of that comes to fruition, you can dive back into Red Dead Redemption 2 and grab some freebies every now and then.
