Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Paula’s Crimes Catch Up With Her

Critic’s Rating: 4 / 5.0

4

When Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 7 started with Paula fleeing from the scene of the crime, I wanted to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon.

Seriously. I’ve been very critical of how Paula keeps everything close to her chest and flat-out acts like she isn’t building this almighty case against herself.

Picking up the phone would at least show she’s not opposed to the law, because right now she looks guilty as sin.

(Courtesy of Apple TV)

I spent much of “Flighting” trying to rationalize Paula’s actions because I understand wholeheartedly that these aren’t situations regular people get themselves into.

But when you have people like Geri and Rudy on the phone — people who don’t really know Paula, might I add — putting their own lives at risk to tell her right from wrong, it just begs the following question:

Why bother trying?

She was definitely in shock at the top of the episode, but as the episode progressed and she thought Dennis was deceased, she figured she was in the clear.

(Courtesy of Apple TV)

In fact, had she not reeled Geri and Rudy in to go to the old lady’s home, they would all probably be in the clear.

But now that the mysterious Brian has entered the picture, thanks to their digging, I don’t know where any of this will end.

As a side note, it’s excellent to have Adam Huber back on our screens. He was one of the best parts of The CW’s Dynasty, and I’m very excited about him playing a villain.

We only have a handful of episodes left, and it seems like Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 is kicking into high gear with the finish line in sight.

(Courtesy of Apple TV)

We don’t even know whether Dennis is truly dead.

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 6 made that gunshot look damning, but seeing him in the aftermath, he’s probably survived much worse before.

You don’t get into this line of work without having nine lives, and I’m starting to get the impression that Dennis will pop up when we least expect him.

Paula’s arrest, considering her reckless nature, was a foregone conclusion, but I just didn’t expect it to be this soon.

She got far too comfortable thinking Dennis was gone and neglected to believe he answered to someone else.

(Courtesy of Apple TV)

Her dance as she prepared for her date, only to rush to the door, indicated that she was no longer scared because the person coming after her was no longer alive.

You could see that she was letting go of everything to indulge in her date with Steve, but I didn’t expect the cops to show up at this point.

I thought the hallway would be empty, she’d go out to investigate, and Jen, Jennifer, or whatever Brian calls her, would show up and unleash holy hell on her.

I found Baxter and Gonzalez’s back-and-forth earlier in the episode hilarious because they had such different viewpoints on the case.

(Courtesy of Apple TV)

But the evidence was just too much to sideline, meaning that Paula was the logical person to charge for the deaths of Trevor and Sky.

The only good thing about the arrest was that Steve stopped at the store for flowers because, could you imagine the embarrassment of your date being arrested for two murders?

Sheesh. And to think, Paula thought she had her life back in order.

Her decision to corner her boss about whether the promotion was fake and was being dangled like a carrot in front of her was so on the nose.

(Courtesy of Apple TV)

These are the things most people worry about when they’re promised great things to come in their careers, and her boss’s admission that there were no funds for the role made sense.

Even at that, Paula wasn’t too opposed to a vanity credit because it would look good in her custody battle. God knows where that custody battle stands now that she’s been arrested.

As I suspected, Karl is already turning on Mallory because he feels that his ex-wife is being portrayed as someone she isn’t.

Whether that will change when he learns the truth about her arrest, I don’t know. Karl could really be her only saving grace if he manages to see a picture of Dennis or something that makes him realize that something is way off.

(Courtesy of Apple TV)

Heck, maybe Mallory would realize that she’s gone too far and go to bat for Paula. Dennis did attack her, remember, way back on Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 3.

That episode feels like a distant memory now since so much stuff has happened. This show really doesn’t stop for her air.

Another thing to chew on: Geri is totally going to use what’s going on with Paula to advance her career.

She thinks this could be her big break, and it’s so obvious now that she’s only latched on to Paula because this story could be huge.

I honestly doubt Geri or Rudy will visit Paula in jail unless damning evidence comes to light that puts someone else in the frame.

(Courtesy of Apple TV)

Rudy had already mentally checked out because he concluded that Paula could be lying and that she was taking valuable time away from his studying.

There are so many things that can change between now and the end of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1, but I’m definitely on board with whatever comes next.

What are your thoughts on Paula’s arrest and how it shapes the final episodes of the season?

Are you glad that another villain took Dennis’s place, or do you think he’s still lingering out there, just waiting to strike?

Let’s keep the conversation going — it’s the only way the good stuff survives.
Say something in the comments, share if you’re moved to, and keep reading. Independent voices need readers like you.
