Days of Our Lives Spoilers For The Week of 5-19-25: A Popular Character Finally Returns (But Needs A Miracle)

Bo is back!

Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 5-19-25 promise the first look at Bo and Hope.

Get your tissues — these scenes are going to be devastating, even though we all know that Bo isn’t going to die.

Days of Our Lives Spoilers For The Week of 5-19-25: A Popular Character Finally Returns (But Needs A Miracle)
(Peacock/Screenshot)

Bo Is On Death’s Door, But It’s A Fakeout… Isn’t It?

There are new writers now who seem to understand the importance of family and of legacy characters like Bo Brady.

Bo and Hope are one of Days of Our Lives’ most popular couples for a reason, but their fans have been burned so many times in recent years that it’s hard to trust this latest reunion story.

  • Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 22 Gives One Long-Standing Character A Beautiful Goodbye After A Disturbing Case
    by Jack Ori

A decade ago, Bo was revealed to be alive… only to die in Hope’s arms several weeks later as a brain tumor quickly ravaged his body.

More recently, Bo returned in 2023 with a serious case of brainwashing, and Shawn shot him just as he was beginning to remember who he really was.

At first glance, this latest Bo storyline seems like more of the same.

I trust it not to be, for a couple of reasons.

(Screenshot/Peacock)

We’re still in the honeymoon phase with these new writers, and they haven’t done anything egregious yet, so hopefully they won’t start now.

Besides, I doubt Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso, both of whom walked away from subpar writing before, would return for a ridiculous story in which Bo died.

Add to that the fact that Peter Reckell recently said on social media that he’d be happy to come back permanently if asked, and we’ve got real reason to believe this time, things will be different.

Bo’s New Story Will Be Sad Even Though I Have Faith He’ll Survive

The scenes in the spoiler video got to me.

A flashback of Bo and Hope's first wedding 40 years ago on Days of Our Lives during the week of 5-19-25
(Screenshot/Peacock)

Ciara begging her father to live, Hope putting her head on his chest, and flashbacks of Bo and Hope’s long relationship all brought tears to my eyes..

I know that he’ll be okay — or at least, I think so, but that doesn’t make these scenes any less sad.

    by Jasmine Blu

Still, I’m thrilled for Bo and Hope time. Family stories — even sad ones — are what I watch soap operas for, and this looks like a throwback to the golden age of Days of Our Lives.

Sadly, John’s Story Is At An End Just As Bo’s Is Beginning

Unfortunately, we can’t say the same thing for the storyline about John being missing.

John’s death is inevitable, and we’ve all known that since September 28, 2024, when Drake Hogestyn passed away.

A fire threatens to take John's life after all on Days of Our Lives during the week of 5-19-25
(Screenshot/Peacock)

According to Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 5-19-25, there is some significant movement forward this week, which is unsurprising considering that John’s funeral is supposed to air sometime in June.

Marlena’s excitement about John being found soon turns to heartbreak when she learns that John was caught in an explosion and was hurt badly.

The spoiler video is somewhat confusing when it comes to this.

Love this show? We do too — and we want to keep writing about it.
Your comment or share can help make sure we get to. That’s the magic of supporting indie media.

One scene depicts Steve and possibly Shawn standing outside a room that bursts into flames, suggesting that the fire begins in Dr Russell’s lab.

However, that has nothing to do with John, who disappeared in Estonia.

Is Days of Our Lives splicing together unrelated footage to make it appear that it’s part of the same story or is there some weird explanation for why Steve knows about the explosion that snares John?

In any event, Marlena will be heartbroken to hear that John is in bad shape.

  • The Real Housewives of New Jersey Isn’t On Bravo’s Fall Lineup, But It Deserves One More Season
    by Tiffany Bailey

It hurts longtime fans too, knowing that John can never return, and that’s something beyond anyone’s control.

Still, I’d rather have John’s funeral sooner rather than later.

I hate that Days of Our Lives tapes so far ahead because when an actor who has been with the soap for decades passes away, it usually takes a year for the show to catch up with real life.

That’s so disrespectful to the memory of these legacy actors, even though it isn’t intentional.

Kayla gives bad news to Marlena on Days of Our Lives during the week of 5-19-25
(Peacock/Screenshot)

In this case, we got there quicker because Drake Hogestyn contributed input and gave his blessing to his final story while he was still alive.

The writers have repeatedly said that it was written so that if Hogestyn got his miracle and was able to return to work, John could return.

Sadly, that didn’t happen, so the series will go ahead with the funeral. It had to have been so hard filming his death while knowing that the real-life one was still coming, especially for Deidre Hall.

Elsewhere, There Is Another Exciting Return (And Yet Another Birthday)

Marisa Reyes debuts as a teenage version of Ari, Gabi’s daughter.

JJ and Gabi get closer on Days of Our Lives during the week of 12-16-24
(Screenshot/Peacock)

Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 5-19-25 say that Ari will arrive in Salem just in time to celebrate her birthday.

The new writers seem to be birthday-obsessed — this is the third birthday party in two weeks — but I’ll take that over the previous team’s insistence on constant doppelgangers!

I’m curious as to the real reason Ari is in Salem.

Across the world, Neighbours‘ Nell tried to run away to America when she was afraid of the consequences of accidentally killing a man who attacked her, and I can’t help thinking that Ari is in a similar mess.

I also can’t wait to find out if Ari is a mini-Gabi, spitting fire and doing random impulsive things that get her in easily-avoided trouble.

Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 5-19-25 promise another fight between Gabi and JJ. It’ll be interesting to find out Ari’s reaction, especially if she gets in the middle of it.

As someone who loves to write, read, and watch amateur sleuth mysteries, I’m also hoping that Ari digs into who really shot EJ to help clear her mother’s name, getting herself into a dangerous situation along the way.

Random Days of Our Lives Spoilers For The Week of 5-19-25

  • Xander is in hot water after beating up Philip. I hate the unnecessarily violent turn this story has taken, especially since the missing drug problem could have been solved if Xander had let Philip meet Kevin like he planned.
  • Stephanie is supposed to issue a gentle warning to Cat, probably having to do with her interest in Chad. I’ve enjoyed Stephanie more lately, but the way she behaved when Chad wasn’t ready to marry her was atrocious and made me hate having her on-screen for a while.
  • Holly helps Doug III. While this spoiler seems to pop up every week, I don’t mind. I like this couple far better than Holly and Tate at this point. (And are we ever going to find out why Tate is sick?)
