One of the most memorable moments from WWE’s Raw Is 30 show was an interaction between Undertaker and Bray Wyatt. What was said in the ring?
Bray Wyatt recently gave a rare out-of-character interview and was asked the question that has been on the minds of WWE fans since Raw Is 30: what did the Undertaker say before leaving the ring? The two were involved in a segment alongside LA Knight to build up the Pitch Black match at the Royal Rumble. Undertaker helped set Knight up for the Sister Abigail, which was landed with authority. Before exiting the ring, the Deadman took a few seconds to speak words into Bray Wyatt’s ear, creating a moment both men have said will resonate with them for a long time. Bray’s face didn’t betray much of the meaning behind the exchange on Raw, leading fans to wonder what Undertaker had said.
Speaking on Ryan Satin’s Out Of Character podcast, Bray Wyatt was willing to give the following insight: “That moment belongs to me. No one else in the world in the history of time ever gets to have that moment. No one but me. What he said was something that only I would have understood.” Bray continued, saying, “It was something I never thought would come, but what he said exactly is between me, him, God [and] the devil. I could never [reveal it]. I’ll never, never tell so. I’ll go to my grave with it.” He did reveal that the words were “powerful” and “unexpected,” but he didn’t want to go into any more detail. Better Late Than Never For Undertaker To Pass Bray Wyatt The Torch
Reports indicate that WWE viewed this as a passing-of-the-torch moment between Bray Wyatt and Undertaker, and the moment certainly captured that energy. For these two men, both of whom play supernatural wrestling characters, this was a segment with a lot of weighty history behind it. While the former Fiend was reluctant to share particulars, odds seem reasonable that the WWE Hall of Famer said something personal to add to the gravity. This could have happened years ago, though, and would have had a much more significant impact to boot.
Wyatt and Undertaker wrestled one another at WrestleMania 31; at the time, many fans felt that the younger star needed to win the match. It would have cemented him as WWE’s new resident boogieman while taking nothing away from the stellar career ‘Taker had pieced together through 2015 when the bout happened. That isn’t how Vince McMahon saw things, however, as the New Face of Fear lost to Undertaker. There’s certainly no shame in losing to Undertaker at WrestleMania—plenty of outstanding stars have shared that fate—but it was a case of WWE cutting the legs out from under an up-and-coming star for no discernable reason. This was one year after The Streak ended at the hands of Brock Lesnar, so the company didn’t even have that excuse to fall back on.
So nearly eight years later, the two stood face to face in the squared circle again. Only this time, it was as friends instead of enemies. This time, they saw eye to eye. And this time, Undertaker had the opportunity to do something that had been years in the making: he finally passed the torch to Bray Wyatt, who, at just 35, seems to have his entire WWE career ahead of him.
