Sleep tech company Eight Sleep on Wednesday launched its new Pod 6 device in a smaller size than previous editions to fit more bed frames, along with solo sizes for one-person use. The company said that the device can be used to adjust the temperature on either side 20% faster than the previous-generation gadget.
Because the new pod has a 50% smaller footprint, it can fit most bed frames. The company claims the device has 9x more sensors, enabling it to understand granular temperature controls for each user even if they are sleeping close together. Plus, it can ignore data from a pet or a kid sleeping on the bed with two users.
The Pod 6 is available starting today in over 37 countries, starting at $1,999 for solo sizes and at $2,699 for standard sizes. Solo sizes can fit a Twin bed and one side of Queen, King, and California King beds. Standard sizes will be available in Queen, King, and California King. Plus, it can work with existing add-ons like a blanket, pillow cover, and base.
Beyond new sleep products, the company is pursuing Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval to transition its Eight Sleep Pod into a regulated medical device for sleep apnea in the U.S.
Earlier this year, the company raised $50 million from Tether at a $1.5 billion valuation. Eight Sleep also took steps to expand its international footprint by launching its product in China, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Singapore in the last year, with China becoming one of the fastest-growing regions.
The company’s CEO Matteo Franceschetti told TechCrunch that international markets contribute over 30% of revenue. He mentioned that the sleep tech company plans to expand into other regions of Asia and Latin America. Franceschetti noted that the company is keeping a keen eye on the component crunch in the electronics sector, but didn’t say whether it will impact pricing.
“We definitely see the market changing a little bit because AI companies are requesting a lot of different components. We are adjusting our supply chain [to counter that]. It’s definitely something that we need to watch out for, particularly as our devices become more and more, I would say, compute-heavy and intelligent to be able to provide AI features to our users,” he said.
