Remember riding into Nuevo Paraiso back in 2010, chasing bounties across dusty Mexican towns in the original Red Dead Redemption? If you’ve been missing that stretch of map ever since Rockstar left it out of the sequel, it’s time to thank a very generous group of modders.
You can now download the Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier mod for Red Dead Redemption 2, available on Nexus Mods. This one brings back and restores classic RDR1 locations from Nuevo Paraiso, rebuilding the state as it would have looked in 1907. So, instead of just staring at old screenshots and wishing, you can actually saddle up and ride south again, this time with RDR2’s engine doing the heavy lifting. The credits list for the mod is pretty long, which tells you a fair bit about the scale of the effort that went into the project.
What Does The Nuevo Paraiso Mod Add To Red Dead Redemption 2?
If you’re wondering what all the Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier Red Dead mod brings to the table, well, it definitely isn’t an empty map dump sitting there for the sake of nostalgia. For starters, it drops you into Mexico in 1907, with the region rebuilt to fit the setting of Red Dead Redemption 2.
The state itself is split into three regions, and each one has its own identity rather than just being a reskin of the last. Diez Coronas is the highest and wildest of the three. The map is full of massive plateaus, red-rock cliffs, deep valleys, and mountain trails, with military strongholds, remote settlements, ranches, predators, and bandits scattered through it.
Perdido is the driest and most desolate stretch, arid hills and rocky plains dotted with scattered settlements, and its isolation makes it a haven for the Del Lobos gang, along with ambushes, smuggling routes, and government patrols. Punta Orgullo rounds it out with white-sand deserts, cactus fields, and deep canyons, and it’s home to the state’s most important town, which also happens to be the heart of the growing revolutionary conflict.
The towns and settlements themselves aren’t just backdrops either. Each one has been restored with its own population, daily routines, and movement powered by NavMesh, so places feel like they’re actually functioning rather than just sitting there for scenery, and each has its own activities and services on top of that.
Wildlife and vegetation have been expanded too, with new species suited to each region and cleared roads and trails to make getting around easier. Tying it all together is a fully functional railway connecting New Austin to Nuevo Paraiso, with trains that spawn naturally and stop at stations along the route. The Nexus page specifically confirms the addition of a new railway and trains in the mod’s changelog.
On the activity side, there’s a decent spread to sink time into: treasure hunting, bounty hunting, defending forts, bartending jobs, smuggler runs, safe houses, taxi jobs, and stable work.
The mod was first publicly uploaded on September 17 and has already been added to several Nexus Mods collections. However, it’s worth noting that the team has released Version 1.2, describing it as a more stable, but stripped-down version after players reported issues with the initial release. The current Nexus page also lists numerous reported bugs, so this is very much a mod that is still being worked on.

Of course, you’d need to install a few tools like Lenny’s Mod Loader and ScriptHook RDR2 to make it work, while Sir Joseph’s LML Startup Crash Fix is recommended if you have a lot of mods installed.
