Skywalker Saga Capital Ships (& Where They Spawn)

The capital ships are some of the most coveted and hard-to-get collectibles in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. While there are only five capital ships in the game, they are among the most detailed and close to their movie counterparts. Moreover, each vessel not only acts as a playable level with its collection of items, but it can even accompany the player, appearing in orbit when the player is planetside. However, there are some drawbacks to grinding for a capital ship; for one, they are expensive, costing upward of 5 million studs, and two, each has some relatively specific prerequisites to obtain that are pretty time-consuming.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Other than playing in some of the most iconic battles and lightsaber duels in LEGO The Skywalker Saga, the capital ships are among the most recognizable ships in the Star Wars franchise. From the Super Star Destroyer featured in The Empire Strikes Back to the Trade Federation’s Lucrehulk-class battleship from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Unfortunately, fans of capital ships from Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith will be disappointed as there are no capital ships from those movies in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga; however, they do appear in their designated levels but are more like set dressing.

While LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga isn’t the first Star Wars game to allow players to explore capital ships, the vessels bring some of the most immersive experiences. Moreover, each ship has an amount of nostalgia and humor that make them worthwhile grinding after. Among the five capital ships in LEGO The Skywalker Saga, from the Death Star to Kylo Ren’s ship, the Steadfast, Darth Vader’s flagship, is one of the most comprehensive. The player can explore most of the vessel, from the winding corridors to the bridge and even the conference room from Star Wars, where Darth Vader force chokes the Imperial naval officer, Admiral Motti.

LEGO Star Wars: Trade Federation Battleship From Phantom Menace

The Trade Federation Battleship in Star Wars_Episode I_The Phantom Menace.

The Trade Federation Battleship first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and returns in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Most recognized by its “C” shape and sphere in the center, this massive vessel acts as the primary capital ship of the Trade Federation and is akin to a hub world in LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga. While the ship was used for blockading and trading craft before the Clone Wars, a newer battle-oriented version of the capital ship would appear in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Players will first have to complete The Phantom Menace level to obtain this capital ship. After that, the player needs to draw out the capital ship by completing space battles in the systems associated with the vessel. In this case, it’s Naboo, Geonosis, Utapau, or Mustafar. The space battles are marked by huge red zones and are a tug-of-war between two opposing factions.

It might take a few tries, but upon re-entering the star system, there’s a chance the capital ship will jump out of hyperspace. The player will then need to neutralize the ship’s defenses, board it, and defeat the enemy forces, including a relatively simple LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga style boss fight that won’t sideline co-op players. After taking the Trade Federation Battleship, it will be open for purchase for 3 million studs.

LEGO Star Wars Has The Death Star From Episode 4

The Death Star in Star Wars_Episode IV_A New Hope.

A colossal mobile space station in the shape of a moon, the Death Star made its first appearance in Star Wars and is synonymous with the Star Wars franchise. Seemingly designed by the Geonosians at the start of the Clone Wars, the Death Star would only become fully operational after the work of Imperial scientist Galen Erso who first appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In the same movie, Galen Erso would also be pivotal in informing the Rebel Alliance of the existence of the Death Star and is one of the essential characters missing in the LEGO Skywalker Saga.

To obtain this marvel of Imperial ingenuity, the player must first play through the Star Wars: Episode 4 – A New Hope level. Afterward, the player needs to visit Coruscant’s Federal District in the prequel levels, then visit a Rebel engineer in the Great Temple on Yavin 4. Upon completing the quest from the engineer titled “Operation Stardust,” the Death Star will unlock in LEGO Star Wars, costing about 5 million studs.

LEGO Star Wars Has Darth Vader’s Executor From The Empire Strikes Back

Darth Vader’s Flagship in The Empire Strikes Back.

One of the most powerful ships in the Imperial Navy, the Super Star Destroyer, and the personal flagship of Darth Vader, the Executor, first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back. This massive capital ship would see heavy combat during the Assault on Echo Base and the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. Like other iconic scenes in LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga, the Executor’s biggest scene is replaced by a funny moment, somewhat wasting the ship’s potential.

Related: LEGO Star Wars Has A Shadows Of The Empire Easter Egg

Like the Trade Federation Battleship, players will need to visit systems that the capital ship is connected with; in this case, it’s Bespin or Tatooine. After playing five or so space battles in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the Executor will appear in either system with an arsenal of defenses the player needs to overcome before boarding and fighting the crew. Clearing the Executor will net the player a one-of-a-kind capital ship at 5 million studs.

The Death Star II From Return Of The Jedi Is In LEGO: Skywalker Saga

The Death Star II in Return of the Jedi.

The Death Star II is the larger and more powerful version of the original Death Star and made its first appearance in Return of the Jedi. While the Death Star II has a minor role in the level it appears in, the capital ship has some of the best moments in the game, almost making the Dark Side more likable in LEGO Skywalker Saga. Unlike its predecessor, the Death Star II was a vast upgrade, having greater defensive capabilities like a ground-based deflector shield and millions of small thermal exhaust ports to counteract the weakness of the Death Star from Star Wars. However, seemingly following its predecessor’s footsteps, the Death Star II would ultimately be destroyed by a contingent of Rebel starships.

To get this partially completed yet fully operational battle station, the player must follow steps similar to obtaining the first Death Star. First, the player needs to finish all the levels in the Return of the Jedi segment in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. After completion, they must travel to the Ewok village on Endor and talk to one of the most valuable characters in LEGO The Skywalker Saga, an Ewok engineer. The engineer will then give the quest “Doom Ball III,” and once completed, the Death Star II will be available for purchase for a low price of 2 million studs.

Kylo Ren’s Capital Ship, The Steadfast, Is Unlockable In LEGO Star Wars

Kylo Ren’s Flagship_The Steadfast_in Star Wars_The Force Awakens.

While it’s not as vast as other flagships in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the Steadfast was an essential part of the First Order’s ground operations and Navy. The Resurgent-class Star Destroyer would become the new flagship of Kylo Ren after he rose to the rank of Supreme Leader following the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. What it lacked in size, being similar to other Star Destroyers of the same class, it made up in firepower.

To unlock the Steadfast in LEGO Star Wars, players need to go to the Pasaana or Jakku star systems and initiate space battles until the capital ship appears. Like the Executor and the Trade Federation Battleship, the Steadfast’s outer defenses need to be whittled down, and the ship boarded. After defeating the ship’s captain and taking over the vessel, the Steadfast will be available for 3 million studs.

Admiral Ackbar’s Flagship, The Home One, From Return Of The Jedi

LEGO Star Wars Capital Ships Home One

Home One, one of the most powerful ships in the Rebel Alliance fleet, first appeared in Return of the Jedi during the Battle of Endor. Home One is among the most iconic ships in the franchise. Also known as the Headquarters Frigate, from the High Republic to the Star Wars Prequels, the capital ship housed some of the most famous leaders in the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War. While Home One was primarily used in a support role, it had a formidable array of weapons, including turbolasers, ion cannons, and large hangars holding the various fighter squadrons.

Players must complete the Return of the Jedi episode to obtain this marvel of Mon Calamari technology in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. After completing the episode, travel to the Yavin 4, Hoth, or Endor star systems and win space battles. Unlike some capital ships, the Home One’s defenses consist primarily of X-Wings rather than the new Star Wars ships like the B-Wing or the Y-Wing. After battling to the command center and defeating the crew, Home One will be available for purchase for 2 million studs.

Republic Attack Cruiser Venator From Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge Of The Sith

LEGO Star Wars Capital Ships Venator

The workhorse of the Republic fleet during the Clone Wars, the Venator-class Star Destroyer is one of the most recognizable ships from Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith. Known for being versatile, the Venator was deployed in various roles during the war, from a carrier, deploying waves of starfighters, to a capital ship focusing on ship-to-ship warfare. Unfortunately, unlike most of the capital ships unlockable in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the Venator in the game doesn’t belong to anyone notable.

Related: LEGO Star Wars’ Indiana Jones Hat Should Hint At A New Game (But Doesn’t)

Players must have completed the Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith story missions to begin unlocking this capital ship. Players will then need to explore some of LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga’s hub worlds, specifically: Coruscant, Kamino, or Kashyyyk. After participating in some space battles, the Venator will jump out of hyperspace. However, the capital ship won’t go down without a fight deploying a wing of ARC-170 starfighters supported with up to 10 turbocannons. Once the defenses have fallen and the player defeats the Republic crew, the Venator will be available for purchase for a low price of 1 million studs.

The Invisible Hand, General Grievous’ Flagship, From Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge Of The Sith

LEGO Star Wars Capital Ships Invisible Hand

First appeared in Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith, the Invisible Hand were among the ships to assault the Galactic Republic’s capital planet of Coruscant at the tail end of the Clone Wars. Despite being the flagship of Separatist General Grievous, Revenge of the Sith doesn’t give viewers the chance to see the full scale of the ship. Fortunately, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga fixes prequel movie issues like this by allowing players to explore the capital ship fully. Unlike other Providence-class dreadnoughts, the Invisible Hand was highly modified and had increased firepower and massive hangar bays that held millions of combat droids and starfighters.

Players will first need to complete all the corresponding story missions, in this case, complete the missions in the Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith segment. Similar to the Trade Federation Battleship, players must visit the Naboo, Geonosis, Utapau, or Mustafar systems to encounter the Invisible Hand. After completing the necessary space battles, the Invisible Hand will spawn in. Once aboard, the player only needs to defeat the Invisible Hand’s crew. Then the capital ship will be available for purchase for 2 million studs and make a fine addition to the many collectibles in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

The First Order Dreadnought, The Fulminatrix, From Star Wars: The Last Jedi

LEGO Star Wars Capital Ships Fulminatrix

A fleet-killer that by no means should get away, the Fulminatrix first appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi during the Battle of D’Qar. One of the most powerful ships in the First Order Navy, the capital ship comes with orbital autocannons that can quickly eradicate enemy bases and a wing of TIE Fighters. Despite its intimidating size and weapons, the Fulminatrix would ultimately be destroyed by a Resistance bomber, striking at the capital ship’s weakness during the Battle of D’Qar.

Related: LEGO Star Wars References The Animated Ewoks Show You Want To Forget

The Fulminatrix only appears after players have completed all of the story missions in the Star Wars: The Last Jedi segment of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. After completing the story missions, players must complete space battles in either Jakku, D’Qar, Cantonica, Pasaana, or Exegol space. While LEGO Skywalker Saga breaks The Last Jedi’s plotting, the Fulminatrix closely resembles the movie. After jumping out of hyperspace, it brings its large amount of firepower with up to twenty-six turbolasers batteries and TIE Fighters against the player. Fortunately, the battle to take the ship is relatively simple once aboard, netting players the First Order dreadnought for 3 million studs.

In some ways, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a return to form for classic Star Wars games, offering fans an opportunity to go on a primarily carefree adventure. However, while the capital ships allow players to explore some of their favorite vessels, it’s difficult to ignore the role of crunch in LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga and its effect on the stud grind. Nevertheless, the capital ships in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga offer another avenue of immersion and exploration that even the most casual Star Wars fan will enjoy.
