A Wheel of Fortune contestant won over $23,000, but lost out on taking home $68,000. Afterward, fans bashed contestants on the episode as some of the worst ever.
Ted Quann, from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, solved two Fortune Frenzies on October 27. The Halloween lover played against Nicole Pirino, from Lyndhurst, New Jersey, who also solved two Fortune Frenzies, and Diana Hunt, from Austin. Texas.
Pirino, a psychic medium, guessed most of the letters in the first puzzle. When she guessed a wrong one, the turn moved to Quann, who incorrectly solved “Check into the Bates Hotel.” The turn moved back to Pirino, who correctly solved “Check into the Bates Motel,” which gave her $7,050.
For the Crossword Puzzle in “What a Scream!,” Quann solved most of the letters before guessing a wrong one. Hunt, whose birthday is the day before Halloween and is a true Scorpio, guessed an “I” before going Bankrupt. With only one letter left, the turn moved back to Quann, who solved “Jeepers!, Eek!, Yikes!, Run!.” He had $5,150.
After a “Lose a Turn” from Hunt and a “Bankrupt” from Quann, Pirino guessed an incorrect letter. Quann then tried to buy a vowel, but he had no money. He then guessed a “P” before buying an “O.” He guessed the wrong letter. The round consisted of the contestant guessing letters that had already been called.
Hunt guessed “Splurging on Muscles,” but was wrong. Pirino didn’t get the “C.” Quann then solved “Splurging on Myself.” He won a trip to Costa Rica, giving him a total of $19,175.
Quann solved two Triple Toss-ups while Hunt solved one of them. Pirino solved the final puzzle — “Solid Foundation” — ending her with $10,450.
Hunt took home $2,000. Quann won the game with $23,175. He advanced to the Bonus Round, where he chose “Phrase” for his category.
Wheel of Fortune gave him “R,S,T,L,N, and E.” He chose “P,D,H, and I.” His puzzle then looked like “I _ _ILED THE E_ _ _.”
As the clock counted down, Quann guessed “I Failed the Edge,” “I Filed the…” It was “I Failed the Exam.” There was $45,000 in the envelope, which would have given him $68,175.
