Watch Kurt Vile join Fontaines D.C. on stage for ‘Roman Holiday’ at La Route Du Rock

by
August 16, 2026
in Music

Fontaines D.C. brought out Kurt Vile for ‘Roman Holiday’ during their set at La Route Du Rock – check it out below.

The Dublin band closed out the final night of the festival at Fort de Saint-Père in France yesterday (August 15), while Vile and his band The Violators performed on the same stage earlier in the day.

Vile then appeared during Fontaines’ set and played ‘Roman Holiday’ with the band. The collaboration was particularly fitting, as Fontaines frontman Grian Chatten has spoken about the ‘Skinty Fia‘ song being substantially inspired by Vile in the first place.

The set also saw Fontaines once again air the two new songs they recently debuted at their first headline show of 2026, ‘Marianne’ and ‘Six Shot Morning’.

Check out footage of the performance here:

Fontaines D.C. played:

‘Boys In The Better Land’
‘Here’s The Thing’
‘Jackie Down The Line’
‘It’s Amazing To Be Young’
‘Televised Mind’
‘Roman Holiday’ (with Kurt Vile)
‘Big Shot’
‘Nabokov’
‘Before You I Just Forget’
‘Big’
‘Bug’
‘Hurricane Laughter’
‘Roy’s Tune’
‘Marianne’
‘In The Modern World’
‘Favourite’

Encore
‘Six Shot Morning’
‘I Love You’
‘Starburster’

‘Roman Holiday’ appeared on Fontaines’ third album ‘Skinty Fia’ in 2022 and speaking to Rolling Stone at the time, Chatten explained: “I’d say that song was quite inspired by Kurt Vile. I saw him play in Croatia two years ago when we were playing there and I envied him. The sun was going down and he was able to stand there and chill out.”

“We spend 10 minutes before going on stage slapping each other in the face,” he continued. “I envy someone who can send a text to his kid, go off on stage and them just play really well.”

Fontaines and Vile both appeared on the 2021 Velvet Underground tribute album ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’, with the former contributing ‘The Black Angel’s Death Song’ and the latter covering ‘Run Run Run’.

Speaking to NME at the time, Fontaines bassist Conor Deegan III said it was “class” to be connected with Vile on a project and described his track as “an absolute banger”.

It comes after Fontaines previewed their forthcoming single ‘Marianne’ and recently confirmed that their fifth studio album is on the way. No further details have been confirmed, but the band have been known to be working on the record for some time.

Talking to NME in February last year, bassist Conor Deegan III said: “It’s one of those things where we can’t stop writing – it’s something that we just do when we’re with each other.”

Guitarist Carlos O’Connell offered another update in January, telling NME: “We’ve been writing, it’s been fun. We’re at Reading & Leeds and there are a couple of shows before that. I think if the music is there, it could get busy.”

Fontaines will play a few shows around Europe – in France, Switzerland and Austria – in the coming days, before topping the bill at Reading & Leeds at the end of the month. They then return home to headline Electric Picnic in Ireland on August 30.

Their return to the stage followed the death of their manager Trevor Dietz, who they described as “the sixth member of the band”. Their first performance since his passing was at the BBC’s final live session at Maida Vale earlier this month.

They released the standalone single ‘It’s Amazing To Be Young’ in February, covered Sinéad O’Connor’s ‘Black Boys On Mopeds’ for War Child’s ‘Help(2)’ album and contributed to the soundtrack for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

Vile, meanwhile, released his 10th studio album ‘Philadelphia’s Been Good To Me’ in May. He will also be playing at End Of The Road festival in Wiltshire next month.
