Filming has begun for the Harry Potter remake, and the new series is already making up for a cut movie scene. One of the significant benefits of HBO’s TV show is that it will have a lot more time to include all the details from J.K. Rowling’s books. The Harry Potter remake will have at least seven seasons, each of which will adapt one of the novels that outline Harry’s story.
The Harry Potter movies, on the other hand, had a harder time with this. There simply wasn’t enough time to capture everything. Even many of the select scenes that got filmed had to be cut in the end. Over the years, we have had opportunities to see these deleted scenes, both on their own and in extended editions of the original films.
Though we are still a long way off from seeing precisely which moments the Harry Potter TV show will restore, we’ve already had some clues. Filming began for season 1 this year, and Harry Potter set images have so far supported HBO’s claim that this remake will be faithful to the books. We’ve seen Harry and the Dursleys at the zoo, and with Hagrid in London, and that’s certainly encouraging.
Harry Potter Set Images Hint That The Remake Will Restore A Deleted Sorcerer’s Stone Scene
Some of the Harry Potter TV show set images that have been circulating the internet recently show Dominic McLaughlin’s Harry and Nick Frost’s Hagrid heading into the London underground. This comes directly from the Harry Potter books, where the strange-looking duo maneuvered the Muggle world on their way to Diagon Alley. The subway was a particularly tricky place for someone like Hagrid to exist.
We never saw Harry and Hagrid on the London underground in the official cut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. However, there was a deleted scene that saw the pair chatting while they rode the line toward the Leaky Cauldron. It’s a simple scene, but it’s these small moments that make a story feel more realistic. There’s something comforting about the thought that HBO may be restoring it in the TV remake.
How The Harry Potter Movie’s Deleted Scene Led To A Confusing Moment In Sorcerer’s Stone
Though Harry and Hagrid’s scene in the underground wasn’t pivotal to the plot, that isn’t to say it didn’t have value. As previously stated, seeing the pair travel across London rather than be where they need to be adds to the overall sense of realism. However, Harry and Hagrid’s conversation on the train ultimately related to a later Sorcerer’s Stone scene, and this caused a bit of confusion.
In the official cut of Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry told Ron and Hermione that Hagrid had told him how much he always wanted a dragon when they first met. This was a bit confusing, because we never saw Hagrid say any such thing. That’s because this conversation happened in the deleted underground scene. The Harry Potter movies cut their chat, so the later statement didn’t make much sense.
These are, overall, minor things. However, this confusing situation would have been avoided entirely if the Harry Potter movies had had more time. It goes to show just what an advantage the Harry Potter TV show will have. Though set images don’t guarantee a scene will make the final cut, the longer format of this remake is a sign that we will get far more out of the bargain.
