Before he became an HGTV star, Drew Scott got his Hollywood start as an aspiring actor.
The Property Brothers star took fans on a trip down memory lane by sharing several of his old headshots from his early acting days on Instagram. “Who knew headshots could tell a life story,” he captioned the Monday, July 6, upload. “The first one booked me my very first commercial in high school. The last one was an editorial shoot last year.”
He went on to joke, “A few more wrinkles and a lot more hair on the face. Memories and reminders I need to up my skincare routine. Lol.”
The post’s slides showed the evolution of Scott’s headshots over the years, with a fresh-faced look in the first photo before he eventually grew out his stubble. The upload’s last slide featured a more recent photo of Scott sporting his full beard.
Fans reacted to Scott’s blast from the past in the post’s comments. “GREAT PHOTOS! I remember that being THE go to font for Headshot names too!” one user wrote. Another added, “I thought it was Jonathan at first. I don’t think y’all look identical but the first 3 pics boy y’all do.” Someone else gushed, “Handsome at every age.”
A different person posted, “I like photo #2 the best! Def look like JD in that shot.” A separate commenter stated, “Once handsome, always handsome!!” HGTV’s Scott McGillivray joked in a comment of his own, “This must be why people ask me where my brother is!”
Drew has acted in a number of projects over the years, including serving as a body double and stand-in for Tom Welling on Smallville. Some of his more recent acting credits include Girls5eva, Love Hurts, and Murdoch Mysteries. He and his twin brother, Jonathan Scott, also guest-starred on a Season 5 episode of Hacks, which aired in April.
Drew and Jonathan’s flagship HGTV series, Property Brothers, premiered in 2011. The duo have gone on to launch several home renovation and design shows in the years since, including Brother vs. Brother, Property Brothers: Forever Home, Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers, Chasing the West, Celebrity IOU, Property Brothers: Under Pressure, and more.
Drew recently opened up about his journey from acting to home renovation via Instagram. “When I was a kid and young adult, all I wanted to do was be an actor. I wanted to be in scripted projects. Jonathan wanted to be a magician,” he recalled in the June 16 video. “We only did real estate as a way to fund our creative endeavors. We grew up in a ranch, so we were always handy. When we came out of high school, we just started flipping houses, and it worked.”
After 10 years of working in real estate, Drew said he began to miss acting. However, the only projects he was getting at the time were “host auditions as a real estate expert.” He explained, “I realized we could probably build a brand around what we were doing, and maybe this could still be a path to being on TV. So, I shifted gears into what became Property Brothers, and Jonathan and I actually loved it.”
Drew continued, “We’ve grown a business together. We’ve helped people all over the world. We’ve inspired them. And then, on the acting front, it’s actually opened up even more opportunities. Years back, I kicked myself a little bit, thinking I was wasting years, I wasn’t acting. Then I realized, no, this was just a different path to get to that passion.”
