Mel B. Uses Golden Buzzer on Isaac Atkins

What To Know

  • The third night of Auditions on Season 21 of America’s Got Talent aired on June 16.
  • Mel B. used her first Golden Buzzer of the season on singer Isaac Atkins, sending him straight to the Live Shows.
  • Several other acts also made it through the the Auditions with their impressive performances.

The June 16 episode of America’s Got Talent featured the continued auditions for Season 21 of the competition show. With five of 10 Golden Buzzers given out so far, Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Terry Crews each had one remaining, while Mel B. had two going into the night (Howie Mandel has already given out both of his).

More unprecedented talented acts hit the stage to perform for the four judges (Mandel, Mel B., Vergara, and Cowell), and they decided who would have a chance to move forward and who would not.

Scroll down for a recap of the night and to find out who’s moving on.

Sprice Machines

The first act, duo Steve and Mark (known as the Sprice Machines), were professional chain reactor artists. They built a massive contraption on the stage, which featured doll versions of the judges and more. It took them over a week to create.

Cowell was a bit unclear on what the pair’s goal was, and Steve explained that it’s to “build machines that are so large and so impressive that they warrant their own Super Bowl.”

Sprice Machines

Trae Patton/NBC

Mark said there was a 50/50 shot the machine didn’t work. It kicked off with Crews being swung into a target, which then set off the chain reaction for the rest of the dominoes (in the form of boxes) and other parts of the machine to be set into motion. The whole thing went off without a hitch.

“That was actually quite amazing,” Cowell admitted, while Vergara noted that she could tell it “was so much work” for Steve and Mark. Mel said, “I would’ve liked a little bit of commentary, so I could follow along,” and Cowell quipped, “I think if you’re about the age of 4, you could understand it.”

Mandel, Vergara, and Cowell said “yes” to the guys, which means they’ll move on to deliberations for a chance to make the Live Shows.

Come Here

Come Here, a dance group from South Korea, hit the stage next. They danced barefoot and at an extremely fast and precise pace.

Trae Patton/NBC

“It was fantastic, let me tell you,” Mel confirmed, while Mandel praised the choreographer for her “amazing” work. Vergara gushed, “You filled the whole stage with your energy. I don’t think this season we’ve got anything close to what you guys have done. It was spectacular.”

Cowell agreed that the group is “really, really talented,” and all four judges said “yes” to putting them through.

Ryan Inzero

Next up, Ryan Inzero performed his routine, which Mel B. was amazed by, despite not knowing exactly what he was doing as he twirled a sign around and did a split.

Chris Haston/NBC

Mel got on her feet to give a standing ovation. “I don’t know what it’s called but it was nuts, it was ridiculous, and I really liked it,” she laughed. Cowell called it “like New Year’s Eve when someone drank a whole bottle of tequila,” and Mandel admitted, “It was fun, but it’s a no for me.”

In the end, Mel was the only person who gave Ryan a yes, which means that he won’t be moving on.

Infinite Spin

The next act was Infinite Spin, a group of four businesswomen who perform at night after working their day jobs. The ladies lit their bras on fire and performed a dance routine, which weirded Mel out so much that she pushed her Red Buzzer, showing her dissatisfcation.

Infinite Spin

Chris Haston/NBC

Cowell and Mandel couldn’t help but laugh at the performance, while Vergara looked intrigued. Cowell wanted to know if the ladies “had a few drinks” before coming up with what they were going to do.

“I actually don’t know what it was, but it made me laugh,” he said. Mel called it “a bit all over the place.” In the end, Cowell admitted he “would’ve said yes,” but it wasn’t enough to move the act through.

Lygia Way

Lygia Way performed a (sort of?) magic act that had the judges confused. “It just keeps getting weirder and weirder,” Vergara noted at one point. Three of the four pushed their Red Buzzers.

Lygia Way

Trae Patton/NBC

“I think you’re great, but you know how to do a lot of things, but nothing got to a great, great level,” Vergara said. Cowell urged Lygia to work on it, then come back and try again.

Young & Strange

Another duo called Young & Strange was up next. After 15 years of performing together, they took their “grand illusionists” act to the AGT stage. One of the guys got into a small box, while the other stabbed more than a dozen wooden rods through it and somehow … didn’t strike his partner.

Young & Strange

Chris Haston/NBC

“I loved it,” Vergara said. “You guys are so funny. That was magic for sure. For me, it was the perfect audition.” Mel said the routine was “craaaaazy magic,” and Mandel added that he would pay large amounts of money to see the guys perform in Vegas.

While Cowell wasn’t “jumping out of [his] chair,” the other three judges said “yes,” which was enough to move the guys through.

Eric Haines

Eric Haines, a literal one man band, was up next, but he failed to impress the judges. All four of them hit their Red Buzzers, which automatically stopped Eric’s performance so he could not move forward.

Eric Haines

Chris Haston/NBC

Isaac Atkins

Hoping to have better luck was Isaac Atkins, a sergeant in the U.S. Army who took some of his leave time to audition for the show. He sang a rendition of Måneskin’s “Beggin’,” which had Mel B. and Vergara dancing in their seats.

Isaac Atkins

Chris Haston/NBC

“Let me tell you, you can sing,” Mel B. gushed, while Vergara told him he has a “sexy voice.” Before giving anyone else a chance to weigh in, Mel hit her Golden Buzzer, which means Isaac will automatically make the Live Shows.

Cris Sosa

Comedian Cris Sosa was the next act to hit the stage. The judges were ready for some comedic relief after a long day of performances.

Cris Sosa

Chris Haston/NBC

Mandel said the routine was “really good,” while Cowell confirmed that Cris is “funny,” adding, “Every part of that routine was funny.”

Vergara raved, “I’m so proud that a Latin guy could be so funny,” and Mel said her cheeks were “killing” from laughing so hard. All four of the celeb judges voted Cris through with four yeses.

Bety

Bety, who is just 17 years old, came all the way from Spain to audition for America’s Got Talent. She performed a rendition of “If the World Was Ending” by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels in both Spanish and English.

Bety

Chris Haston/NBC

“I don’t think it could have gone any better for you. You have so much potential. I can see your nervousness … take all this positive energy in,” Mel B. urged. She pointed out the teenager’s “standout star quality,” while Mandel noted the “unique” quality to Bety’s voice.

“Your energy’s beautiful, the song was perfect, you’re a star already,” Vergara gushed. It was four overwhelming yeses from the judges.

Larussell

Larussell came to the stage with an act that he admitted was “sort of indescribable.” He was joined by 50 other people from the Bay Area, all of whose talents he wanted to showcase. “It’s Bay Area kids who never got these opportunities,” he explained.

Larussell

Chris Haston/NBC

Larussell rapped, while the rest of his community members danced, played instruments, and sang background. “What is there not to like?” Vergara wondered, while Cowell “agreed” and gave the group a thumbs up.

Mel said the audition wasn’t “perfect,” but applauded the group’s camaraderie. Cowell raved over how they were able to bring people of all different ages and talents together. It was four yeses for Larussell.

Guy Kelton Jones

For his performance, Guy Kelton Jones performed a poem called “The Riot Wasn’t Plan A.”

Guy Kelton Jones

Trae Patton/NBC

Cowell called the poem “very powerful,” while Mel noted that there was “inspiration, vocals, and wisdom all wrapped into a beautiful package.”

Vergara said the performance was “special,” and Mandel let Guy know that he’s “so much more” than a poet. It was four yeses for the hopeful, who is now moving through to Live Show deliberations.

Akira

The final act of the night was Akira, all the way from Japan. He stripped naked, proving that he could perform his entire act without showing his unmentionables.

Akira

Chris Haston/NBC

While some of the judges were intrigued and laughing, Mel hit her Red Buzzer to show she was not interested. “You came all the way from Japan to show us … that?” Mel questioned.

Cowell told Akira, “I thought that was beautiful. You are really, really funny. I love you!” Vergara admitted, “I wanted to say so bad I didn’t like it, but I did like it. It was really fun and funny and surprising.”

Mandel also loved it. He, Vergara, and Cowell all said yes, so Akira is moving forward.
