Brilliant Minds Season 2 has struggled a little with the introduction of new characters, but there is one who stands out as a great antagonist.
Dr. Charlie Porter has made it clear from the beginning that he isn’t Dr. Oliver Wolf’s biggest fan. He views medicine as a sport, and he also doesn’t have the same empathy for patients as Wolf does, but it isn’t necessarily all due to his ego.
The sneak peek for the Brilliant Minds Season 2 fall finale pits Charlie and Wolf against each other again, and this time, he’s also debating psychiatric care with Dr. Carol Pierce.

A Patient With ICU PTSD
The sneak peek opens with Charlie, Wolf, and Carol together, discussing their patient, Julia, who may be suffering from ICU PTSD.
As Carol and Wolf go through Julia’s notes, they realize that all of the symptoms that she’s experiencing may be connected to her time in the ICU.
However, there is a catch. Rather than experiencing the actual events, she is experiencing the hallucinations she felt while under sedation and receiving treatment.
This all makes sense, and most people would agree with the treatment that Wolf and Carol want to start with, but not Charlie.
Take a look at the sneak peek of the Brilliant Minds Season 2 fall finale to see Charlie’s reaction:
Tension Carries Over from a Previous Case
This scene builds on the last time we saw Charlie in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 8.
It was during that episode that Charlie encouraged Jorge’s mom to give up on her son, and Charlie thought he was doing the right thing.
I genuinely don’t think there was anything malicious in this conversation, as I think it all connects to the Halloween episode, which hinted that one of Wolf’s past patients was somehow connected to Charlie.
This is why Charlie has an issue with Wolf, especially since Wolf even admits he allowed a patient to continue medical treatment when it wasn’t the right thing to do.
Charlie Wants a Witness

At the end of Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 8, Wolf chews Charlie out in the office, and Carol walks in only for the tail-end of the conversation.
It’s clear that this hasn’t knocked Charlie’s confidence, though, and he’s more than happy to go up against Wolf again. After all, sometimes, different mindsets and opinions are needed.
This time, it’s all happening in front of Carol, and Charlie makes it clear that that is a good thing — it means that it’s all in front of a witness this time.
Carol doesn’t seem all that impressed with Charlie, but she has a little more patience for people like him when they debate a topic, and it is arguably a good learning experience for him as a second-year resident.
Plus, Carol can see where this type of arguing could go, and she wants to stop both men from going at each other.

It’s clear from the end of the sneak peek that Charlie is slowly allowing his true feelings for Wolf to surface, as evidenced by the line, “And you’ve never made a mistake that cost a patient their life?”
The way that Charlie says it shows that he knows something about Wolf that nobody else knows, and this is sure to come up as Brilliant Minds Season 2 continues.
One thing this sneak peek hints at is that Charlie is the one who pushes Wolf to his breaking point, leading him to enter the doors of Hudson Oaks.
The Brilliant Minds Season 2 fall finale airs on Monday, Dec. 1 at 10/9c on NBC.
