SpearUAV unveils the Nixon 103, the world’s first encapsulated sub-to-air drone. More specifically, an autonomous AI-powered system that offers submarines, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and other watercraft instant aerial capabilities for various missions, including military operations.

What is an encapsulated drone? It’s exactly as it sounds, a drone securely stowed in a capsule that can be deployed from a submarine or other underwater vehicles. For reconnaissance missions, the capsule can float up to the surface and remain on standby for 24 hours before deployment. A fully powered Nixon 103 can travel for up to 6-miles and boasts endurance of up t o 45 minutes. It can transport a 2.2-pound payload quietly thanks to low acoustic, thermal, and visual signatures. Other features include Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) sensors, automatic target acquisition, encrypted communications, 3rd-party data integration, and cross-domain connectivity. However, this still isn’t as stealthy as these insect-sized drones by MIT researchers.
