Tommy DeCarlo, who had been the lead singer of the classic rock band Boston for nearly the past two decades, has died at age 60 after a battle with brain cancer.
His passing was announced Monday morning on Facebook by his children, who wrote the following:
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026. After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end. During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another. Rest in peace, Dad. With love, Annie, Talia & Tommy Jr.”
DeCarlo had the unenviable task of replacing founding Boston singer Brad Delp, who tragically took his own life in 2007. He was discovered by founding Boston guitarist Tom Scholz after posting covers of Boston songs on MySpace, at the time working as a credit manager at his local Home Depot in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He recorded one album with Boston, 2013’s Life, Love & Hope, which remains the band’s only studio LP since the passing of Delp.
Outside of his work in Boston, the singer formed his own eponymous band DeCarlo, releasing the album Lightning Strikes Twice in 2020. He also released the solo album Dancing in the Moonlight in 2022.
Back in October, DeCarlo announced on Facebook that he was stepping way from performing due to “unexpected health issues.”
