Five-time Grammy winner Shania Twain has inked a deal with Republic Nashville, a division of Republic Records. Twain had previously been with Mercury Nashville since releasing her eponymous debut album in 1993. Both Republic Nashville and Mercury Nashville are under the Universal Music Group umbrella.
“I couldn’t think of a better partner than Republic Nashville,” Twain said in a statement. “I’m honored and excited to be the label’s first artist and lead the charge of this new and exciting chapter. In this respect, it feels like a new beginning all around, and I’m embracing it wholeheartedly.”
Republic Records co-founder and CEO Monte Lipman added, “Shania is one of the most influential and impactful artists of this generation. She’s a rare talent whose legacy continues to resonate throughout the world. We feel a tremendous amount of gratitude to support her new body of work, which is spectacular.”
With the news on Friday (Sept. 23), Twain also released her first new single since 2017, “Waking Up Dreaming,” alongside an ’80s glam-rock soaked video directed by Isaac Rentz that finds Twain in teased hair, sparkles aplenty and dramatic, neon-colored makeup. The new single follows the release of Twain’s documentary Not Just a Girl, which is streaming on Netflix.
Twain was recently honored with the ACM Poet’s Award during the ACM Honors ceremony held in Nashville. Artists including Kelsea Ballerini and Avril Lavigne celebrated Twain’s impactful musical influence, as Ballerini performed “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” and Lavigne performed “No One Needs to Know.”
Twain has notched three top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, and seven No. 1 Hot Country Songs hits, including “You’re Still the One” and “Any Man of Mine.” Two of her albums have topped the all-genre Billboard 200: Her 2002 album Up! spending five weeks at the chart’s pinnacle and her 2017 album Now also reaching the top of the chart. Her blockbuster 1997 album Come On Over — which included “You’re Still the One,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
Twain just wrapped a run of shows for her “Let’s Go!” The Las Vegas Residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. She is signed with Maverick for management and CAA for booking representation.
