Here’s How to Get the Look

All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, Billboard may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes.

Doja Cat just announced her global ambassadorship with MAC Cosmetics by biting into her go-to lippie on the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet Sunday (Sept. 7).

While the “Kiss Me More” singer did win best K-pop at the award for “Born Again” with LISA and RAYE, her lipstick moment on the red carpet was really the head-turner. The clip of Doja biting into her lipstick, along with her vampy full MAC glam, has gone viral pretty much overnight, leading everyone to wonder how she achieved the look. And we’ve got the answer: The singer’s lippie was a chocolate replica of MAC’s MACximal Silky Matte Lipstick in Lady Danger, a classic ruby red that, while not edible, looks delicious on the lips.

ShopBillboard has the inside scoop on Doja’s MAC glam courtesy of makeup artist Ivan Núñez. We’ll take you through all the products used to create her yummy lip combo, eye look and flawless base, breaking down her makeup step by step. The best part? Each product can be shopped right now at Sephora. Keep reading to shop Doja’s 2025 VMAs MAC look.

MAC Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Cherry

A bright red lip pencil.

A vampy red that’ll last all night? Seems impossible. However, this MAC combo is just that good. For Doja’s pout, Núñez used MAC Cosmetics MACximal Silky Matte in the singer’s favorite shade, Lady Danger, retailing for $34, accompanied by a MAC lip pencil in the shade Cherry retailing for $32. The lip pencil was used to define Doja’s lip line while preventing the lipstick from bleeding. The choice of shade was meant to blend into the lip shade rather than create a shadow, generating an even wash of red on her lips.

The formula is slightly waxy but not stiff, giving the user the right amount of slip and control for the lipstick to glide on and stay on. It has a matte finish, but doesn’t feel dry or uncomfy on the lips. The hue is exceedingly vibrant, a striking choice that leans a little vintage, evoking images of Marilyn Monroe.

The Skin

MAC Cosmetics Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in NW30

A powder foundation.

As for the skin, we’ve got a few star products. To give her base a dewy finish, Núñez utilized MAC’s fan-fave Strobe Cream in Pinklite for $53. The product is a sheer illuminator in a subtle pink hue. Think of it like a sheer liquid highlighter. When used beneath foundation, Strobe Cream gives the wearer that “glow from within” look.

Overtop, Doja’s makeup artists layered on another favorite, Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in shade NW30, which goes for $54. The pressed powder formula gives the skin a full-coverage airbrushed finish without looking cakey. Although it wasn’t specified, it’s likely that Núñez used a stiff, fluffy brush, swirling the brush around in the product, buffing it into Doja’s skin, adding to that airbrushed effect.

Adding a wash of color back into her look, Núñez used MAC’s Mineralize Blush in the shade Love Joy for $46. The shade is another hit with fans of the brand. MAC is well known for its mineralized blushes — that just means that minerals are baked into the blush’s powder base. This usually results in a silkier, shimmering finish when applied. Love Joy is a peachy hue, perfect for Doja’s complexion.

MAC Cosmetics M·A·CStack Mascara

A black mascara with a voluminous finish.

Doja’s eye look was rather neutral in comparison to her bold lip, likely to create balance. The singer’s makeup artists utilized MAC’s Connect in Colour Eye Shadow Palette in Unfiltered Nudes, retailing for $76. The palette comes with 12 shades total with different finishes, some matte, some sparkly. This is a great product to have in your makeup rotation if you prefer more natural looks, or if you want to try your hand at a smokey eye.

For her lashes, Doja donned MAC’s M·A·CStack Mascara for $40. The mascara is long-wearing and curls and lengthens the wearer’s lashes with help from that unique silicone applicator. The spoolie has pointed and separated bristles throughout accompanied by a unique teardrop shape that really gets into every hair follicle, evenly coating it with the product.
