Many famous people have appeared in multiple MCU movies, but which of these actors have been in the most? And is it a record that can be broken?
Many actors have had the wonderful opportunity of being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the past 15 years, but which cast member has appeared in the most MCU movies overall? Bringing the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy to the big screen was no easy task, and the blockbuster franchise has featured countless crossovers with many entertainers frequently reprising their roles throughout the extensive library of the MCU. Many of these Marvel actors have also gone on to star in television shows as well, expanding their superhero repertoire.
Actors like Clark Gregg as SHIELD agent Phil Coulson and Charlie Cox as Daredevil have been in the MCU and starred in series that aren’t considered to be officially canon including Agents of SHIELD and Daredevil. However, only a select few of the Marvel cast have appeared in their respective roles more than four or five times. And no more than two major players in the MCU have managed to appear in more Marvel movies than any other.
How Stan Lee & Samuel L. Jackson Both Have Been In The Most MCU Movies
Stan Lee has technically been in more MCU movies than any actor in the franchise’s history. But if his cameos in the first 22 Marvel films were to not be counted due to them being brief appearances and not significant to the stories, then Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury has been in the most MCU entries by far. Nick Fury will next appear in Secret Invasion, but beyond his 11 film appearances thus far, the character will star in The Marvels, his 12th movie. Fury has also appeared in shows such as What If…? and Agents of SHIELD, but the former series doesn’t feature the mainstream version of the former SHIELD director.
As the man who helped Marvel Comics become one of the most successful comic book companies of all time, Stan Lee was known for making cameos in Marvel movies including the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises before the MCU came into fruition. Lee himself stated that he loved being part of the blockbusters because “it’s fun. For about 12 seconds, I feel like I’m an actor. Every kid wants to be an actor.” It was a way for the creator to look back on his time with Marvel while also accomplishing a lifelong dream of being an actor.
Why Stan Lee’s MCU Movie Record Shouldn’t Be Broken In The Franchise
Stan Lee’s Spider-Man: No Way Home tribute was a unique way to remember the comic book legend without him being able to appear in the superhero film. Up until his passing in 2018, Lee had made dozens of cameos in every Marvel movie over the decades. Part of his legacy was acting in those films because it was something audiences could look forward to, and it was something Lee loved doing. Many MCU filmmakers have expressed the best day on set was when Stan Lee filmed his cameo. It’s a legacy that should continue to live on for years after his death.
Samuel L. Jackson has stated he wants to play Nick Fury for as long as he can, and he could eventually break Stan Lee’s record of appearing in the most Marvel movies. Since Lee’s passing, the iconic Marvel Studios intro recognized his career, but it shouldn’t mean there will never be another reference to him. The deal made in 2022 giving Marvel Studios the rights to his name and likeness suggest he could still cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-death, allowing Stan Lee’s illustrious career to live on forever in a new way.
