Where Gamora Is Now And Which Movies She’ll Be In

Starlord, Rocket, Groot, Drax, and Mantis are back in Thor: Love and Thunder, but Gamora won’t reunite with them until Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

The MCU reached its peak with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which brought together all the superheroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to fight a common enemy: Gamora’s adopted father, Thanos (Josh Brolin). Infinity War saw Thanos fulfilling his plan of wiping out half the universe with the snap of his fingers, and Endgame witnessed the combined efforts of the surviving heroes to bring back those who vanished and later fight Thanos and his armies. As Gamora died in Infinity War when Thanos needed to sacrifice someone he loved to get the Soul Stone, The Gamora seen in Endgame didn’t know the Guardians of the Galaxy and was still willing to work with Thanos but was ultimately convinced by present-day Nebula (Karen Gillen) to betray him.

Still, Gamora didn’t know any of the Guardians, Avengers, or the rest. While everyone else paid their respects at Tony Stark’s funeral, Gamora left and her whereabouts are currently unknown. The MCU’s 4th phase has had several movies and series on Disney+ since, but while Phase 4 projects have hopped across the multiverse and traveled through time, the MCU is yet to return to the cosmos. With the Guardians confirmed as playing a major part in the next Thor installment, is Gamora in Thor: Love and Thunder, too? There was some hopeful speculation that Gamora’s whereabouts could be revealed. However, it’s been confirmed that Gamora won’t be in the fourth Thor movie, mainly because finding her looks set to be the plot of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Marvel Theory: The Planets Gamora Could Have Gone To

Gamora was Thanos’ adoptive daughter and her home planet is Zen-Whoberi, which was on the verge of collapsing due to overpopulation and could be Gamora’s current location. As a result, poverty was commonplace, many children were homeless, and the planet was later invaded by Thanos and the Black Order, who proceeded to wipe out half of its population. By killing those residents, Thanos claimed that he saved the planet, as resources were no longer reduced – but Thanos is not that reliable. Thanos found Gamora (whose parents were killed) when she was fighting off a soldier that was restraining her, an act that caught his attention and prompted him to adopt her.

As Zen-Whoberi wasn’t destroyed, it’s possible that the planet is where Gamora traveled to after Endgame. She knew that a pre-Infinity-Stones Thanos massacred her people and that he didn’t do any good to the planet. Gamora could be in Zen-Whoberi to keep a low profile for a while and help the population. Another option is the “Garden”, the planet where the surviving Avengers killed Thanos. The Mad Titan had planned to retire there once he brought balance to the universe, and Nebula knew about it – and as Gamora was the favorite daughter, she surely knew as well. Gamora’s whereabouts are a good excuse to explore more planets in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as well as her backstory, and it will be interesting to see how much her mentality and perspective of the universe have changed since Avengers: Endgame.

Gamora Won’t Be In Thor: Love And Thunder

Is Gamora in Thor: Love and Thunder? Unfortunately not. There was a lot of speculation she could show up, as the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy feature in the movie and appear to have a bearing on the plot. Some fans had wondered if Thor: Love and Thunder could bring Gamora back to reunite the Guardians in time for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with her reintegration struggles providing her plot arc for the third Guardians movie. That theory didn’t last long though, as it’s since been established that Gamora doesn’t have a role to play in Thor 4, likely to avoid distracting from the more Asgardian romantic narratives. As it’s an entirely different Gamora, it makes sense to let her character settle in the wider universe for a while and refocus her story around the Guardians tentpole.

Gamora traveling with her reformed sister Nebula, whose character growth has made her an MCU fan favorite, added additional fuel to the quiet hopes that Gamora would be back with Thor, Star-Lord, and the other Guardians in Thor 4. However, Gamora’s absence doesn’t mean Nebula won’t be in Thor: Love and Thunder. Nebula (Karen Gillen) will be with the rest of The Guardians in Thor’s next outing and is clearly seen in the trailers. It’s also been confirmed by James Gunn that Gamora won’t be in the upcoming Guardians the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+. Fans of Thanos’s deadliest daughter will have to wait until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to see either of them return.

Gamora Will Be In Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 And Could Be Its Big Bad

She won’t be in Thor: Love and Thunder, but Gamora is in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It’s been confirmed that not only will the new-old-Gamora and redeemed Nebula finally reunite with the rest of the Guardians in the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but also that finding her will be a key story thread. It’s quite the wait, but it does mean Gamora’s time jump from being Thanos’s servant in the past to killing him in Avengers: Endgame will get the focus it deserves. Yes, past-Gamora could have rejoined the Guardians in Thor: Love and Thunder, but it would have been doing the character a disservice. Gamora has always been one of the Guardians’ most interesting and three-dimensional members – an impressive feat given her character could have easily fallen into any number of female space assassin tropes (or male-gaze fantasies). Making Gamora the focus of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the only way to continue Gamora’s story without cutting major corners or condensing her character into a 2D space opera stereotype.

Since the returning Gamora isn’t the same version from Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers movies, her personality will no doubt be different. Zoe Saldaña has hinted in interviews that the Gamora of Phase 4 might be morally more in line with her adoptive father Thanos than her “future” self’s teammates. Saldaña has expressed a desire to explore an evil Gamora, one that lives up to the title of Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy. “There’s (also) a part of me that wants to explore a bad Gamora,” she explained (via CBR.com). “I’ve never seen that and she’s, you know, she’s considered the most lethal assassin, the most lethal woman in the galaxy, so I would want to see what that wrath looks like.” Gamora’s character softened and opened up over the course of her MCU appearances. That Gamora is dead though, and the green-skinned living weapon currently in the MCU hasn’t gone through any of that growth. It might just be that Gamora isn’t in Thor: Love and Thunder because James Gunn has her younger self reserved for an antagonist role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
