Game of Thrones has officially entered one of the roughest periods for fans: the lull between seasons. With Season 3 of House of the Dragon officially wrapping up last week, we’re stuck waiting until at least 2027 before A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 drops. And unless you’re lucky enough to get tickets to The Mad King before its run at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon ends on Saturday, September 5, 2026, it’s time to strap in for a Long Night before the next major release.
Further, while we were almost lucky enough to get a massive Game of Thrones launch later this year with War for Westeros, the real-time strategy game from PlaySide Studios, that was unfortunately pushed back to 2027 as well.
The good news is that fans will be able to dive back into the Game of Thrones universe very soon with the upcoming release of The Great Hunt, set to arrive on August 18 (via GoTC).

The Great Hunt is one of several unique, limited-time special events running throughout the month of August for Game of Thrones: Conquest, the critically acclaimed strategy game from Warner Bros. Boston. It officially runs just a few days from August 18 to August 22, alongside several other events for the game’s official History and Visions arc running all month long.
Other exciting events for Conquest releasing this month include the House of the Dragon mini arc, which is currently live and runs all the way through August 24 and features exclusive tie-ins from the HBO television series. Additionally, Honor of the Old Gods is the final special event in the History and Visions arc, running August 24 to 31.
In Game of Thrones: Conquest, Special Events sit outside the game’s regular PvE, PvP, and progression scheduled events, and they introduce unusual mechanics, themed challenges, and exclusive rewards. The Great Hunt in particular is a cooperative PvE event built around Allegiance members rallying against powerful creatures together.
These enemies are tougher than typical creatures and are designed to be fought as a group, allowing players to take down targets they might not be able to defeat alone while earning what the developers describe as “plentiful rewards.”
This month’s Special Events are especially valuable because defeating creatures can award materials for select Flashback Gear sets from previous seasons. Other current Special Events offer more specific collectibles: the House of the Dragon mini-arcs can award Vhagar Hero Relics, Dragon Heir March Pawn shards and other themed cosmetics, while Dragon’s Delight events have historically awarded exclusive March Pawn shards.
Overall, if you haven’t had a chance to play Game of Thrones: Conquest, you definitely shouldn’t write it off just because it’s a mobile game. Both Conquest and Warner Bros. Boston’s Dragonfire are among the top downloaded games on Google Play and the App Store, and offer fans of the franchise unique experiences with the lore they’d otherwise never be privvy to.
