Sam Claflin, known for playing Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games, will star in Lionsgate’s upcoming supernatural thriller titled Bagman.
Sam Claflin is set to star in Lionsgate’s upcoming supernatural thriller Bagman. Claflin rose to prominence after playing Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games franchise from 2013 to 2015. Since then, he’s starred in Me Before You and played Oswald on Peaky Blinders. The 35-year-old actor has previously worked with Lionsgate, who produced The Hunger Games as well as the upcoming Bagman. Bagman tells the story of a father (Claflin) who has to face his fears when a monster who haunted him in childhood comes back to threaten him and his family.
THR reports that Claflin will lead Bagman. Colm McCarthy, who helmed Peaky Blinders season 2, is directing; though they both had a hand on the hit television series, this marks the first time Claflin and McCarthy will work together. The screenwriter is John Hulme, and the producers are Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, who have both worked on YA titles like Maze Runner and Twilight. Jorge Alfaro and Meredith Wieck are the Lionsgate executives who will oversee Bagman.
Given Claflin’s background as well as the producers behind Bagman, it seems possible that the film will draw on the YA genre. However, it’s difficult to tell what kind of tone Bagman will strike, as few details have been released beyond Claflin’s involvement and the logline. In just a few days, the film will be presented to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival. No matter what the film turns out to be like, fans of Finnick and Oswald from Peaky Blinders alike are sure to be thrilled to see Claflin taking center stage.
