The Boys star Karl Urban replaces Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in an incredible X-Men deepfake video utilizing footage from Origins: Wolverine.
As fans continue to campaign for actors to take on the role, The Boys star Karl Urban gets the Wolverine treatment in an incredible X-Men deepfake video. After making his screen debut with animated shows in the ’80s and ’90s, Hugh Jackman brought the character to life for the first time in live-action with 2000’s X-Men, the debut outing of Fox’s film franchise centered on the eponymous superhero team. Born as James Howlett, most of the X-Men films suffering from amnesia and going by the name Logan, struggling to find the truth of his identity and use his regenerative healing abilities and adamantium claws to protect the world.
Though some of the X-Men films scored decidedly mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, Jackman would score rave reviews for his performance as Wolverine. Jackman’s popularity in the role would see him get multiple spinoff movies, beginning with the poorly received X-Men Origins: Wolverine and continually with the generally well-received The Wolverine and concluding with the Oscar-nominated Logan. With the rights to the X-Men reverting to Marvel Studios following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, audiences are gearing up for the arrival of the team and Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one fan has their own idea of who can take on the mantle.
A few months after the actor responded to fans casting him as the Marvel character, YouTube user Stryder HD shared a special X-Men deepfake video. The video sees Karl Urban replacing Jackman’s Wolverine utilizing footage from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, showing The Boys star incredibly taking over as the hero. Check out the exciting deepfake video below:
Though having already garnered popularity with his work in the Lord of the Rings and Star Trek reboot franchises, Karl Urban has risen to household name with his work in Prime Video’s The Boys as team leader Billy Butcher. With his gruff appearance and sturdy build, many fans have taken to naming Urban as one of their top picks of actors to take over as Wolverine for the MCU, with other names thrown out including Urban’s The Boys co-star Antony Starr, Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe and DC Extended Universe vet Henry Cavill. Urban has addressed fans casting him as the new Wolverine for the MCU, calling it very “flattering” but noting that his age makes him an unlikely fit to take over the part.
Discussions of Wolverine’s MCU debut have ramped up in recent weeks since it was revealed that Kingsman actor Taron Egerton met with Marvel Studios, with the actor even teasing it was for the iconic X-Men character. Between the superhero team getting their first inkling of MCU introduction with Patrick Stewart’s return as Professor X for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Kevin Feige’s confirmation of a mutant-centered film set in the franchise back in 2019 and Deadpool 3 in the works for the MCU, it does seem likely that the studio would be meeting with prospective candidates to take over as Wolverine. While audiences await a proper announcement from Marvel, they can revisit most of Jackman’s tenure as Wolverine streaming on Disney+ now.
