The next Zelda game has gotten an exciting update. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, which is releasing later this year, has been teased quite a bit by Nintendo lately, and with the game arriving soon, developer Koei Tecmo has given an official update regarding the Tears of the Kingdom prequel.
Thanks to a recent post by Koei Tecmo on X, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is confirmed to be playable at Tokyo Game Show this year. This information was further confirmed via its GameCity site. When translated, this year’s Zelda booth lists “Trial Play,” although it states that “Details regarding the demo will be announced at a later date.”

While fans will still have to wait a bit longer to learn more details about the demo, it’s nice to see the game will be playable at 2025’s Tokyo Game Show. This year, Tokyo Game Show begins September 25 and runs until September 28, 2025 (the public days are listed as September 27-28).
For those fans who can’t make it to Tokyo Game Show 2025, this is still a good sign. Typically, hot-takes and first impressions are shared quickly by those who play demos at these events. It should also let us see more details regarding the next Zelda game, which is set to release Winter 2025 and will be compatible with the Switch 2.

Age Of Imprisonment Is A New Warriors-Style TOTK Prequel
Thus far, most of Age of Imprisonment‘s plot is still being kept under wraps. However, the game will focus on Princess Zelda’s experiences prior to Tears of the Kingdom. Although some of these moments were seen in flashbacks during TOTK, the new Hyrule Warriors games should provide a more in-depth look as a canon Tears of the Kingdom prequel.
Age of Calamity, the prequel to BOTW set in an alternate timeline, had many playable characters, but it’s still unclear just how many characters will be playable in Age of Imprisonment. Since it’s a Warriors-style game, though, we can expect to see a pretty loaded roster. Additionally, it’s still unknown if Imprisonment will introduce some kind of alternate storyline the way Calamity did.
As a new Zelda game, Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment has a lot of excitement around it. With a demo being available at Tokyo Game Show this year, that hopefully means more news regarding the game will be made public soon.
