Of all the open world games currently out there, Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably the best of the bunch. After all these years, it’s still full of surprises and mysteries, and also rewards return visits. You know, assuming you can stand to look at Micah during the earlier chapters.
While Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game teeming with secrets and the occasional hilarious discovery, there’s one mystery that towers above all others. You already know what it is, I’m sure.
Where Is Gavin In Red Dead Redemption 2?
Have you seen my mate Gavin?
Anyone who’s played Red Dead Redemption 2 will almost certainly have come across an NPC called Nigel, who is looking for his friend Gavin. You’ll typically find Nigel wandering around one of the major towns in the game, and if you meet him more than once it becomes clear that the search for Gavin is having a serious impact on poor Nigel’s mental health.
By the time the epilogue rolls around, Nigel has completely lost his mind and the idenity, whereabouts, and fate of Gavin remains unsolved. Or has the answer been in front of us all this time?
A very popular theory posted by u/DontTurnAround1 posits that you can find Gavin in Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s just that he’s… a little bit dead.
“Gavin’s” Corpses In Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Inconclusive
Not quite confirmation
“I just started Chapter 6, and was on my way to the widow in the north-east mission,” the Reddit user writes. “I saw an X marking a dead body and went to look, thought it may be an ambush. When I got there, there was a guy getting off his horse to look at the body. It felt scripted but idk. He didn’t have any special dialog. But this guy has a VERY similar outfit to Nigel. I might try to take his body to a city to see if anything happens.”
It’s a neat theory, but it’s worth noting there’s absolutely no proof this is/was Gavin, outside the fact he’s dressed similarly to Nigel. I’d also argue I don’t typically dress similarly to my friends before we go on holiday, but maybe I’m not as close with my mates as I thought.
“No. Gavin is still out there,” one fan countered to the theory.
Another added: “Gavin is an alternate personality of Nigel, whose purpose was completed, and he left Nigel.”
Personally, I like the alternate personality theory much more. If Gavin is hiding in Red Dead Redemption 2, it means we’ve already met him.
