A new sci-fi thriller that mashes up Blade Runner and John Wick is set to arrive within a couple of years, and it just got a new update ahead of Gamescom 2026. The cyberpunk genre is at an all-time high following the release of Cyberpunk 2077 and the return of classic franchises in several multimedia projects during the past few years. A new Blade Runner sequel series is set to arrive in December this year, for example, while the Prime Video miniseries Blade Runner 2099 will be released a bit earlier.
However, the genre is still growing outside of these IPs, and there are new titles that are clearly inspired by them. As reported by Dark Side of Gaming, a new sci-fi adventure game that’s deeply rooted in cyberpunk themes and elements has just offered its first full glimpse. Even though the title isn’t expected to arrive for a few more years, the Gamescom 2026 trailer highlights both cinematic and gameplay snippets of what players can expect once it does arrive – and how many Blade Runner and John Wick tropes it carries.
The new Blade Runner-inspired sci-fi game is called Neo Berlin 2087. The upcoming title, expected to be released at some point in 2028, is developed by Elysium Game Studio and published by ByteRockers’ Games. Neo Berlin 2087 is a third-person detective game with shooter elements that’s set in the titular Neo Berlin, a dystopian cyberpunk city. Much like Los Angeles in Blade Runner, Neo Berlin is a very dark and gritty city infused with bright neon advertisements that give it some sort of light.
In the city’s underbelly, crime is running loose, and you take control of a detective called Nolan. Your job in the sci-fi game Neo Berlin 2087 is to investigate crime scenes and put together evidence, but upon doing so, you’re dragged deeper into a web of conspiracies that will have you fighting for your life. The whole setting and investigation-led mechanics are very much reminiscent of Deckard’s job in Blade Runner, but the action sequences already feel like something from the John Wick universe.
As seen in the brand-new trailer ahead of Gamescom 2026, Nolan is a proficient fighter with both his firearms and melee weapons. However, you’ll need to know how to pick your fights, and that’s where the stealth mechanics come in. The game can be played from both the first-person and third-person perspectives. On top of all of that, your choices throughout the campaign can have an impact on its outcome.
Apart from the 2028 release window, Neo Berlin 2087 does not have a more specific window or release date just yet. Given is Gamescom 2026 trailer was announced before the event, it’s likely that it will appear during any of the showcases planned for the period. If you enjoy Blade Runner vibes and John Wick action, be sure to keep this game on your radar moving forward, as it already looks promising.
