Dances With Films Unveils 25th Anniversary Poster [EXCLUSIVE]

Screen Rant can exclusively reveal the official poster for the 25th anniversary of Dances With Films, the defiantly independent film festival.

Screen Rant has the immense honor of exclusively revealing the poster for the 25th anniversary of Dances With Films, known to many as DWF: LA. The most defiantly independent film festival has been championing innovation, talent and creativity since its founding in 1988. Started by Leslee Scallon and Michael Trent, the indie film event will once more take center stage in Los Angeles starting on June 9 at the TCL Chinese Theater. Events will last through June 19, and the lineup is a parade of nonstop talent.

The first film to kick off the iconic DFW: LA festival is none other than The Walk, and dramatic work directed by Daniel Adams. The film stars Terrence Howard (Empire), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Malcolm McDowell (Father Stu) and Justin Chatwin (Another Life). The powerful picture is based on true events surrounding the desegregation busing of Boston in 1974.

Of course, The Walk is far from the only film prepared to be the talk of the town next month. Dances With Films recently unveiled their full lineup, which included Ashgrove, a pandemic era film starring Amanda Brugel (The Handmaid’s Tale), The Latin From Manhattan, about the wild life of adult film icon Vanessa Del Rio (Vivian Lamolli, All The Queen’s Men), and much more.

Added to already incredible list is Boomerang, a comedy short starring SAG award winner and Emmy nominee Marin Hinkle (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and Unbound, a short film that follows NASA Mission Specialist Dr. Anna Fisher (Lauren Lapkus, Orange is the New Black) as she paves the way to become the first mother in space.

Dances With Film’s Official Poster Reveal

DWF 25th Anniversary Poster

The new Dances With Films poster makes no secret of its agenda, which is to celebrate the quality of its independent films without regards to the machine of industry politics and dealings that may affect big-budget movies on a larger scale. The crowd of audience members throwing up hands and hearts in the air is the testament to the enduring love of filmmaking that creates new cinephiles no matter what the state of the world is at any given time.

Director Daniel Adams, who has already won awards at several festivals for his new dramatic film The Walk, shared the honor of opening the DWF: LA festival in the following quote:

The purpose of art is to shed new light on the human condition, and as a filmmaker, my job is to convey my thoughts on that subject to an audience, both viscerally and then intellectually. Dances With Films is a festival that not only understands this, but takes it to heart, and chooses its entrants based solely on that, and not on the hype or glamour that usually comes with filmmaking. So to be invited to DWF based on that criteria not only has special significance for me, but is truly an honor.

The festival may not choose its entrants based on hype, but there certainly is hype surrounding The Walk, given the accolades it has already received. Los Angeles residents and visitors will soon have the chance to see for themselves how it holds up on June 9, as well as to check out the various other independent films on the roster for 2022.

Dances With Films opens June 9 with The Walk, premiering at the TLC Chinese Theater in Hollywood. More information about the lineup can be found on the film festival’s official website.
