One of the biggest mysteries in Red Dead Redemption 2 has always been the locked outhouse on the grounds of Braithwaite Manor. Now, players have found a way inside.
For those who might not know, Red Dead Redemption 2 is full of weird, unexplained stuff. Lights in the sky, robots, pigmen, and even poor Gavin. If you explore the grounds around Braithwaite Manor, you’ll find an outhouse. Get too close to it, and you’ll hear the desperate cries of a young woman.
What’s Inside The Locked Braithwaite Outhouse?
It’s pretty grim
If you do a little digging, you’ll discover the woman locked inside the small wooden shed is Gertrude Braithwaite, who was apparently born disfigured due to inbreeding. Her mental state leaves a lot to be desired, too, but I’d wager that has more to do with the fact she’s spent most of her life trapped in a box.
This information isn’t exactly new. However, the notion that you can actually get inside the outhouse to see what all the fuss is about? Well, that’s a more recent discovery. Before now, we could only ever hear Gertrude’s pleas. If you want a closer look at her, this is what you need to do.
One Reddit user recently shared a video showing that, if you drag an animal carcass right up the outhouse and start to skin it at just the right angle, you can glitch inside and come face to face with Gertrude.

We’d love to be able to free her
While Gertrude hurls a lot of sexually explicit threats your way if you hang out near the outhouse, I can’t help but feel bad for her. Once you get inside her “home”, you can see she is indeed disfigured. She also spends most of her day curled up sobbing so, you know, that sucks for her.
Given that this is a glitch, once you get inside the outhouse she won’t react to you, or any of your weapons. Not that you should be attempting to shoot or otherwise abuse an imprisoned young girl anyway, mind you. You also won’t be able to free her, so this really is just a way to get a good look at her in the flesh after all these years.
This, of course, is just one of the many secrets Red Dead Redemption 2 is still able to throw our way after all these years. Who knows what else it still has up its sleeve?
