Toni Collette and Andrea Riseborough Reveal Their Favorite Christmas Movies

Toni Collette and Andrea Riseborough shared their favorite Christmas films of all time.

During a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley about their new film, Goodbye June, the subject of Holiday films came up. Collette and Riseborough then named two of the most heartwarming Christmas classics as their personal favorites, The Polar Express and The Muppet Christmas Carol.

“I kind of really love The Polar Express, to be honest,” said Collette. The 2004 animated film follows a young boy who boards a magical train to the North Pole on Christmas Eve with a bunch of other children. Together, they encounter a series of challenges and rediscover their belief in Santa Claus. It was directed by Robert Zemeckis and based on Chris Van Allsburg’s children’s book of the same name. The movie stars Tom Hanks (Adult Hero Boy, Father, The Conductor, Hobo, Ebenezer Scrooge, and Santa Claus), Josh Hutcherson (Child Hero Boy), Nona Gaye (Hero Girl), and Peter Scolari (Lonely Boy).

Riseborough named 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol as her favorite. She also mentioned that she had re-watched it recently on film and how it really highlighted how beautiful the production design was. “I love Muppet’s Christmas Carol, and I saw it at the Tyneside Cinema, which is in the northeast of England, recently because they had screened it on film, which was so beautiful to see. And the production design is just gorgeous,” she explained.

The Muppet Christmas Carol, directed by Brian Henson, is a musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale. It follows Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine) as he is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future on Christmas Eve. The film features iconic Muppet characters such as Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy (Frank Oz), and Gonzo (Dave Goelz) as the narrator.

Collette and Riseborough’s Goodbye June is a Christmas family drama directed by Kate Winslet. The story is about June (Helen Mirren), who is terminally ill. Her four adult children go visit her before Christmas. After they reunite, they are forced to deal with family drama between themselves as well as the complicated relationship they have with their father (Timothy Spall), while grieving their dying mother.

Goodbye June is available to stream now on Netflix.
