Chicago Med Celebrates Its 200th Episode With a Guest Appearance You’ll Either Love Or Hate

Wow, 200 episodes is nothing to sneeze at!

Sorry for the bad joke, but it’s exciting that Chicago Med has lasted this long.

Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 2 spoilers promise a huge return as part of this milestone: Will Halstead, who is the definition of a polarizing character.

(NBC/George Burns Jr)

Will’s Arc Closed — So Why Is He Back At Gaffney?

Will used to be the center of Chicago Med, so it’s understandable in a way that the writers would want him around for the 200th episode.

It’s still annoying, though, because his arc closed almost perfectly.

After yet another harebrained stunt — this time sabotaging OR 2.0 on purpose to make a point about AI-assisted medicine — Will confessed, resigned, and went to Seattle to start a new chapter in his life with Natalie.

The two of them got their happy-ever-after ending, so why does Will show up again with an unconscious patient in his arms?

The only way this makes sense is if Will’s family needed something only Gaffney could provide.

The spoiler video begins with a little boy asking for help before Will shows up in typical dramatic Will fashion — could that be Owen?

(NBC/George Burns Jr)

It’s been so long since Owen was on that I don’t remember what he looks like, and even if I did, nothing would stop Chicago Med from hiring a new actor to play him.

Sharon May Want Will Back Full-Time, But That’s Not Happening

Several Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 2 spoiler photos feature Will alone with Sharon in her office.

Chicago Med has been short-staffed for a long time, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she offers him his old job back.

Sharon speaks with Will on Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 2
(NBC/George Burns Jr/)

There’s no way Will is going to take her up on that, though.

Actor Nick Gehlfuss is set to appear in the new FBI spinoff, CIA, in the spring, which means he won’t be available to reprise his full-time role on Chicago Med.

That doesn’t mean Will won’t have an arc that lasts two or three episodes like Reese’s did on Chicago Med Season 10.

    by Jasmine Blu

That’s honestly a good thing.

A few episodes of Will doing his thing are a lot more tolerable than full-time Will working undercover, involving himself with the mafia, or otherwise getting into ridiculous and unrealistic trouble.

Plus, a short-term arc means he won’t be part of any love triangles, which was the most annoying thing about Will. He was always fighting with someone over Natalie, and later over Hannah.

Will and Hannah meet again on Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 2
(NBC/George Burns Jr)

Presumably, Will and Natalie are happy together now, so that won’t be an issue, but if he were to come back for more than a few episodes — especially since Natalie doesn’t appear to be with him — the writers would have to find something for him to do, and it would probably go in that direction again.

How Will He React to Hannah’s Pregnancy?

Hannah has grown a lot — she’s certainly not the drug-addicted doctor that Will tried to save when he first met her.

Love him or hate him, you probably have an opinion.
Don’t keep it to yourself. Hit the comments with your thoughts, and let’s talk.

But when Will returns and discovers she’s pregnant (if she tells him), he might think she’s being self-destructive and try to lecture her.

Hopefully, he’s grown too and won’t be like that, but you never know.

Will and Frost tanding on opposite sides of an empty bed on Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 2
(NBC/George Burns Jr.)

It’s not common knowledge that Hannah’s baby is Archer’s, and Will is probably the last person she’d want to tell that tidbit to.

Still, it could be a compelling arc for Will to confront how much everything has changed in the three years since he left Gaffney.

Hannah has changed in positive directions, Marcel is gone (which I will never stop mourning) and so is Maggie, and there are a bunch of new doctors and residents.

I can relate to that feeling of the world changing while you’re away, so it would be fun for Will to experience that too.

It could even lead to character growth, which he is long overdue for.

Dr. Charles checks on someone on Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 2
(NBC/George Burns Jr)

If You Don’t Like Will, Don’t Worry…

…there are other things going on, though it does seem that Will is involved in everything.

Spoiler pictures have him in scenes with Dr. Charles, Dr. Frost, and Sharon, which makes it seem like the episode will center around him.

However, NBC’s logline suggests that’s not entirely the case:

Things get personal when Ripley and Archer butt heads over the treatment plans tied to an unusual case; Asher makes a surprising discovery with an expectant couple; a patient throws the hospital into chaos.

Ripley and Archer’s conflict likely stems from jealousy and hurt feelings over who Hannah is having a baby with, which I could do without.

Will catches up with Dr. Charles on Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 2
(NBC/George Burns Jr)

I’ve had enough of Ripley’s immaturity to last a lifetime. It’s to the point where I hope Will puts him in his place!

I’m curious about what Hannah discovers, though, and how it relates to her story.

The unusual patient probably has to do with Will, and hopefully will take up enough of his time that he doesn’t put his nose too far into Hannah’s business.
