The Los Alamos National Laboratory announced that its NVIDIA Venado supercomputer will be the first in the U.S. to be powered by NVIDIA’s Grace superchips. It was built using the HPE Cray EX supercomputer and consists of a combination of Grace CPU Superchip nodes as well as Grace Hopper Superchip nodes for a host of applications. The completed system is expected to exceed 10 exaflops of artificial intelligence performance.
What makes the NVIDIA Grace CPU Superchip so special? It boasts two Arm-based CPUs that are connected coherently through the high-bandwidth, low-latency, low-power NVIDIA NVLink-C2C interconnect. This enables up to 144 high-performance Arm Neoverse cores with scalable vector extensions and a 1 terabyte-per-second memory subsystem. Plus, NVIDIA’s Grace CPU Superchip interfaces with the newest PCIe Gen5 protocol to offer maximum connectivity with the highest-performing GPUs. Anyone interested in building their own supercomputer at home can start with the NVIDIA Jetson Nano.
