Hubble Space Telescope Captures Multi-Armed Galaxy Merger 520 Million Light-Years from Earth
The NASA / ESA Hubble Space Telescope captured an eye-opening image of galaxy CGCG 396-2, which is a rarely seen multi-armed galaxy merger located around 520 million light-years from Earth in the constellation of Orion. This observation comes from the Galaxy Zoo, a citizen science project involving hundreds of thousands of volunteers from around the world.

What exactly happens during a galaxy merger? Well, the stars and dark matter in each galaxy essentially become affected by the approaching galaxy. During the late stages of a merger, the gravitational potential (shape) begins changing so quickly that star orbits are greatly altered, and lose any trace of their prior orbit. Back here on Earth, the Audi E-Tron Scooter merges electric skateboard and scooter into one.
