The Hollywood star Danica McKellar of “The Wonder Years” fame is celebrating after successfully completing the challenge of reading the entire Bible cover to cover in just one year.
McKellar Opens Up About Reading The Bible
While walking the red carpet at the 31st annual Movieguide Awards, McKellar told Fox News that she is on “round two right now” after completing her goal.
“It’s just, doing something regularly that’s always a challenge, right? Because you get busy,” said McKellar, 49. “And my life doesn’t have a regular schedule to it, doing movies and then not doing movies, but I found that if I did just two sessions a day for a little while, I could catch up, like after shooting a movie. That’s the most challenging.”
“The most rewarding is just getting to know God better and understanding some of the patterns and going, ‘Oh, this theme of ego versus humility’ is like really strong through the whole story,” she continued. “Maybe we should pay attention to that.”
Another biblical theme that stood out to McKellar was “the idea of forgiveness, [and] the Lord’s Prayer.”
“Obviously, this is a big, big deal, and we need to pay attention because forgiving other people who have trespassed against us is one of the most challenging things that a human can do and yet that is our task,” McKellar explained. “So, just seeing all that through the Bible again and again was just beautiful.”
McKellar Finds God
McKellar has been open about not finding God until later in life thanks to her good friend Candace Cameron Bure of “Full House” and “Fuller House” fame.
“I’ve been around Christianity my whole life in some way, shape or form, but it never really clicked,” McKellar told Fox News in December of last year. “And my good friend Candace Cameron Bure… she brought me to church. And all I can say is that something happened.”
“All I know is… I was flooded with this love and understanding,” she continued. “I’d always been so biased against Christianity for various reasons, mostly because of the bad reputation it’s gotten with causing wars, and you think, ‘Oh, Christians are these really judgmental people,’ and all this religious stuff. The truth is, Jesus was anti-religion. He was anti-religion, and I didn’t even realize that.”
McKellar went on to say that after Cameron Bure took her to church to see a “passion play,” she felt “suddenly understood.”
“Everything I always thought about there being some higher power and wanting to do the right thing, just because it’s the right thing, when no one’s watching, why that matters, and it all just came into focus,” she added. “And I feel so blessed. I do have this very recent memory of being a nonbeliever, and I have no judgment whatsoever, I just want people to feel the love and peace that I feel now.”

McKellar Thanks Cameron Bure
Last year, McKellar thanked Cameron Bure directly while appearing on her podcast
“Candace, I don’t wanna brush over the huge, huge impact that you’ve had on my life this year,” McKellar said, according to CBN News. “I don’t even know how to call that like friendship, it’s more than that. Because of you helping me to find my relationship with God and Jesus, it’s been like a revolution in my life. It’s been a revelation in my life.”
Reading the Bible in its entirety over the course of many years is difficult enough, but to finish it in just one year is truly a huge accomplishment. God bless McKellar for doing this, and we hope that she continues to enjoy the Bible as she reads it once again!
