A video of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer telling Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh that he would “pay the price” for a potential reversal of Roe V Wade resurfaced Wednesday amid the arrest of a potential assassin outside of Kavanaugh’s home in Maryland.
In March 2020, Schumer made a speech outside the Supreme Court as justices heard a case about a Louisiana abortion law. Schumer shouted a stark warning at Kavanaugh and Justice Neil Gorsuch during that speech, saying they could face sinister consequences for their “awful decisions.”
“I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price,” Schumer said. “You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”

Schumer has since tried to retract the harsh, violence-inciting statement from that day.
In a statement sent to Newsweek on Wednesday, Schumer reiterated that he has “been clear that he supports peaceful protests and is thankful law enforcement arrested this person today.”
Schumer’s resurfaced video was met with an outcry of criticism by many online, and his words were again amplified in light of the potentially deadly events of Wednesday.
Congressman Mike Johnson was unwilling to allow the statement to go unnoticed.

Kavanaugh’s home has been the site of multiple protests since the leak of the draft ruling regarding Roe V Wade in May. And, again last night, he saw protestors pacing the sidewalks outside his home; on the same day, there was an attempt on his life.
