Facing what by all accounts will be a drubbing on election night, Democrats are scrambling to come up with a campaign message voters might actually embrace for the midterm election.
Now they think they might have hit on it. The message will be to portray Republicans as pursuing an “extreme MAGA agenda that costs families,” according to a White House communications memo.
That’s the talking point President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris intend to use as they travel around the country touting their latest tax hike and climate spending bill, dubbed the “Inflation Reduction Act.”

Head Off GOP Attacks
Democrats have realized that they will need to fend off Republicans blaming President Joe Biden for how he has handled the economy. Most political pundits predict the GOP will take the House, but the Senate could be a toss up.
Democrats are resting their hopes on such things as gas prices coming down slightly in recent weeks, with a White House insider telling The Hill that voters will “notice” that gas has fallen from record heights. (Gas is still far more expensive than when Joe Biden took office.)
The latest talking point from the White House is that inflation is down. On Wednesday, Joe Biden proclaimed that, “Today we received news that our economy had zero percent inflation in the month of July.”

That is not true. The July 2021-July 2022 consumer price index rose 8.5%, but was below the June 2021-June 2022 surge of 9.1%. So while inflation may have slowed, it is still at a 40-year high.
They will also include things like the reversal of Roe v. Wade, their support for banning some semi-automatic rifles, and the never-ending Jan. 6 committee.
Democrats’ 2022 Campaign message: gas is for peons, bumpkins, hillbillies, and morons. If you’re not driving a $55k electric vehicle, you’re not part of this “incredible transition” that we’ve blessed the people with.

‘Ultra MAGA’ Least Of Democrats’ Worries
While Democrats are focused on ways to tell the American people how great everything is, there could be deeper problems for them. A new Issues & Insights/TIPP poll released on Monday shows that 59% of those polled were concerned about the state of Joe Biden’s mental health.
Other responses to the poll included 36% said they were “very concerned,” and 23% said “somewhat concerned.” The poll result came the same day as Americans watched Biden struggle to put his jacket on. First Lady Jill Biden ultimately had to help him.
There is also the problem that, according to a CNN poll released last month, 75% of Democrat voters do not want Joe Biden to run again in 2024, a sharp increase of 24% from February.
What are Democrats planning to run on in 2022?
Arming the IRS with $1 million in ammo?
Weaponizing the FBI against their enemies?
Record high inflation?
Record high gas prices?
I don’t think that’s going to be the slam dunk they think it is.
