After the recent snubbing of President Joe Biden by Saudi Arabia and other OPEC nations following his request that they increase oil production, Congressional Democrats are rushing to the President’s aid.
Rather than increasing American energy production, Democrats are threatening retaliatory measures against the House of Saud.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has put out feelers on a piece of legislation that has been dubbed the “NOPEC bill.”

Revisiting U.S. Saudi Relations
After turning Joe Biden away with a pat on the head, Saudi Arabia announced it would decrease oil production by two million barrels a day.

This has led to all manner of hand-wringing and angry threats.
Take White House National Security spokesman John Kirby, who said, “Certainly, in light of recent developments and OPEC+’s decision about oil production, the president believes that we should review the bilateral relationship with Saudi Arabia and to take a look to see if that relationship is where it needs to be and that it is serving our national security interests.”
Or Democrat Senator Bob Menendez, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who said:
“There simply is no room to play both sides of this conflict — either you support the rest of the free world in trying to stop a war criminal from violently wiping off an entire country off of the map, or you support him. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia chose the latter in a terrible decision driven by economic self-interest.”
Much of the Democrats’ talking points on this matter are couched in terms of Saudi Arabia “helping Russia.”
Joe Biden plans to punish Saudi Arabia for not pumping more oil.
For 20 months, Biden has punished domestic producers for wanting to pump more American oil.

What The NOPEC Bill Would Do
The NOPEC bill would allow the U.S. to sue OPEC under anti-trust laws. While Democrats may have not gotten as far as to think why the Saudis would give a rat’s rear end about a lawsuit in an American court, they may be beginning to figure out that the Saudis may not be the BFF’s of America.
During a recent CNN interview, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) said, “There’s got to be consequences … whether it’s lifting the cartel’s immunity, or whether it’s rethinking our troop presence there, I just think it’s time to admit that the Saudis are not looking out for us.”
A Republican sponsor of the bill, Sen. Chuck Grassley, said:
“My bipartisan NOPEC Act would crack down on these tactics by the foreign oil cartel. It’s already cleared the Judiciary Committee on a bipartisan basis, and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t pass as a part of our upcoming defense authorization effort. Our energy supply is a matter of national security.”
While in Florida recently to survey damage from hurricane Ian, Biden did a bit of handshaking and back slapping with Fort Myers Mayor Ray Murphy, and quipped, “no one f***s with a Biden.”
When it comes to begging for oil, looks like the entire kingdom of Sadi Arabia gave Joe a giant middle finger.
Democrats want to punish Saudi Arabia for cutting oil production. Yet they cheer Biden cutting oil production. If you want to punish someone for oil shortages punish yourselves. If you would’ve kept Trumps energy independence policy what Saudi does would be irrelevant.
