In a sign of conquest, China’s Xi Jinping will visit Hong Kong on the 25th anniversary of the handover from the UK to China.
The agreement between the UK and China 25 years ago was that the tiny nation of Hong Kong would maintain its own form of government for 50 years before being engulfed by China. For 25 years running, Hong Kong was rated the freest country in the world by the Heritage Foundation. But not anymore. In 2018 Hong Kong was the freest but then came the Chinese takeover.
Because of China’s brutal takeover of the city country, most people in Hong Kong would like to leave. The COVID mandates of masks and vaccines were not negotiable for the citizens of Hong Kong.

People’s rights have been taken from then and especially the right to speech and freedom of the press. China instituted a law in Hong Kong that shared that anyone who is critical of the tiny nation could be punished by China. No one is excluded from this ruling.
Now after replacing the legislature with pro-Chinese politicians and placing the man responsible for brutally stopping the protests of 2019-20, Xi wishes to visit Hong Kong.
The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, will visit Hong Kong for the 25th anniversary of the city’s handover to mainland China, the state news agency Xinhua reported on Saturday.
The trip will be Xi’s first known visit outside mainland China since January 2020 after the Covid-19 outbreak. He will also attend the inaugural ceremony of the sixth-term government of Hong Kong, Xinhua said.
John Lee will become the city’s new leader on 1 July, replacing Carrie Lam, who oversaw some of the territory’s most tumultuous times with anti-government protests and Covid.
Every year since 1997, the people of Hong Kong would protest China on July 1st, the handover date of Hong Kong to China. Millions have attended these rallies even in the rain. It will be interesting to see what happens this year after China’s brutal actions these past few years.
