Finally: Sky Ferreira is back with her first new song as a solo artist in three years. Ferreira wrote “Don’t Forget” with Jorge Elbrecht and Tamaryn Brown. Elbrecht also mixed the single and produced it with Ferreira. The song was mastered by Heba Kadry. Listen to “Don’t Forget” below.
Ferreira previously discussed “Don’t Forget” in a 2019 interview with Pitchfork. Camille Dodero wrote in the Cover Story:
In March 2019, Ferreira shared the song “Downhill Lullaby,” her first new music since releasing her debut album Night Time, My Time in 2013. Shortly after the release of “Downhill Lullaby,” Ferreira joined Charli XCX on Charli’s track “Cross You Out.”
Ferreira announced in 2015 that her second album would be called Masochism. She subsequently claimed that a new song and short film would arrive that summer, but scheduling conflicts and health issues delayed its release. “I refuse to put out something that isn’t honest,” she later said, explaining the wait. “It’s not something that I can force out. If I was to do it any sooner I either would have been compromising myself and anyone listening.”
The following February, Ferreira said that Masochism would land that summer. Ferreira also discussed the largely self-produced LP in her interview with Pitchfork, stating that she wrote it with Tamaryn Brown and also worked with Jorge Elbrecht. The album has yet to materialize.
In a new interview with Vulture, Ferreira said she’s “100 percent confident” the album will come out on the heels of the new single. “I think there’s some things that need to be finished, and I would like to write some [more] songs,” she said. “A lot of it’s done. It’s just more mixing, rerecording certain parts, changing certain lyrics. It’s little details.” She also said she plans to announce a tour soon.
